I’ve been bringing my dogs to VCA in Clackamas for over a decade. I can’t say enough about the excellent quality of care my fur-babies receive. All of the doctors and staff are great to work with but I have to give a special shout out to Dr Lea Sheldahl & to Sandy, you both go above and beyond with the compassion & gentle loving care you have shown my dogs and family. Any needed test or procedures are always explained, with options and the price estimates given upfront. When we had to say goodbye to beloved senior pets, your gentleness and compassion was appreciated beyond words. I can’t thank you enough for your continued care of Ralph, Daphne and Toby.

I normally don’t leave negative reviews, but my experience here was serious enough that other pet owners deserve to know — especially regarding my interaction with Dr. Mary Reynolds. Back in April, I brought my cat in because she had stopped eating, was lethargic, and even tried to eat litter. I was afraid she might have an intestinal blockage. I explained everything clearly to the staff and to Dr. Mary Reynolds. They took an abdominal X-ray and told me my cat “might have gas” and recommended leaving her there so they could “push the gas out.” Because I’m a first-time pet owner with limited English, I trusted what they said. Later, when I looked at the X-ray myself, it was very obvious that what Dr. Reynolds called “gas” was actually feces. This made me feel the explanation I was given was misleading and not medically accurate. While I was still confused, more services were added, and everything was made to sound urgent and necessary. When I said the cost was too high, I was pushed to apply for CareCredit. I wasn’t given time to understand or ask questions — just pressure. I specifically asked if I could leave my cat there and be called when everything was done. The staff said “OK, OK!” very enthusiastically. But less than an hour later, I was called urgently and told I needed to come immediately because my cat was suddenly “critical” and needed to be transferred to another emergency hospital for a blood transfusion. When I said I had to pick up my kids and could come at 4 PM, they insisted I come sooner. When my sister and I arrived, my sister asked Dr. Mary Reynolds what exactly had been done to my cat during the hospitalization hours. Instead of a clear and direct answer, Dr. Reynolds gave vague explanations and avoided specifics. Yet I was handed a bill for $1,624.79 with no transparency. Looking at the invoice, I was charged for: • X-ray + radiology interpretation • IV fluids setup + hourly maintenance • Multiple hours of hospitalization • Lab tests • Medications • Exam fees But to this day, I still do not know what was actually done during those hours, and the X-ray interpretation I was given was inaccurate. Overall, I felt: • Misled about my cat’s condition • Pressured into unnecessary services • Pushed financially • Given confusing communication • Not respected when asking simple questions • Avoided instead of being given answers by Dr. Reynolds This was extremely stressful and has made me lose trust in this clinic. I hope they improve transparency, accuracy, and communication so no one else goes through this.
