- BWBrady WilsonAug 25, 20251.0When I asked for help with data recovery on my MacBook, the guy just pulled up Google on his phone and recommended some basic troubleshooting steps. I thought Geek Squad would have more troubleshooting information beyond a simple 1 minute Google search. I realize my data issue wouldn’t be a quick fix, if it could be fixed at all. However, the minimal effort that the employee here put in was worth less than nothing. This service was embarrassing to Best Buy and Geek Squad.

The thing you should know going in there is that geek squad does not repair computers pretty much anything they say do repair to get you to get a membership with them... they actually don't do. They will always give you an excuse as to why certain things can't be fixed in house and that your item needs to be sent out. Then the estimates you get are always astronomical. And when you decline the expensive uncalled for repair they purposely take over a week to send your item back to the precinct for you to pick up. Overall I have had a horrific experience with geek squad and regret getting a membership. Also hp laptops suck. I bought mine in mid June and have had it sent to the manufacturer 3 times already for " hardware problems ". Now the dayum thing won't come on anymore and geek squad said that is not covered by hp warranty so it will cost over 200 bucks to replace the power button among other things. Basically what you should gather from this long post is that geek squad is not a good service and hp envy laptops are a hit or miss... go to staples for your electronic purchases. Square trade protection is great and the employees don't work off commission and quotas... they treat you with respect, they acknowledge you and actually guide you in how to make the best purchase for you in regards to your needs and budget.
