Either useless or in on the con. I went in there today to ask how to disable auto-updates on this TCL A3X smart/scam phone I got through them a week ago. I'm not trying to beat the system. I'm trying to survive in 2023 corporate trickle fee America. I don't have wi-fi on my internet, and I need to leave the mobile data routing open for notifications for my job. That leaves me wide open for these system updates to burn my data bytes when I'm not looking. Yeah, right, by design I'm thinking, eh? ..to get me to buy more tracfone cards. Everything I read online said you go into settings / software updates, but it's not there in android 11. I asked not one but two of the geek squad. First was completely placebo (he said "look you have 19 GB, why you worried?"...he was looking at the storage!), the next one tells me "well, they stopped the ability to turn off the auto-update from version 10 or 11 onward". Well, guess what...WRONG. I looked a little harder online and wouldn't you know it...here's the secret...you go into settings, 'about phone', then you get developer rights by tapping on the build number about 7 times, then you get developer options enabled! Then you go in there and scroll down to the pot of gold...AUTOMATIC SYSTEM UPDATES! Booyah! OFF! Now I can keep the mobile data open for my work app and not worry about getting fleeced by tracfone. I'll just remember when I'm near a free wi-fi hotspot to do the 'check for updates' under system updates. HA! Nice try, tracfone! And thanks for nothing, geek squad.
