Truly exceptional care – for both pets and people. We couldn’t be more grateful for the team at VCA Referral & Emergency Center of Westbury. From start to finish, everyone we interacted with treated us — and our cat — with genuine care and respect. The doctors took the time to patiently explain every detail of our cat’s situation, answering all our questions without ever making us feel rushed. Even after our appointment, when we thought of another question and mentioned it to the receptionist, the doctor personally came out just minutes later to speak with us again. That level of responsiveness is rare and so appreciated. Before surgery, they let us go back and say hello to our cat, which meant the world to us. While we were there, we were impressed by how clean and organized the back area was, and how calm all the animals seemed — a real testament to the quality of care they receive. The entire facility was spotless, including the lobby and even the bathrooms. The reception team answered the phone right away every time we called, never rushing us off, always kind and attentive. And small touches — like free snacks in the lobby — made us feel cared for too. The doctors were also incredibly sensitive to pricing, openly discussing lower-cost options without us even having to ask. It was clear they truly wanted what was best for both our pet and our family. We left feeling that our cat was treated like a precious baby, and we were treated like humans — not just another case. The whole place feels exceptionally well run, with every staff member genuinely invested in helping. Highly, highly recommend this clinic. They’ve earned our trust completely.

Totally incompetent and unhelpful. I just called hoping to speak to an actual Vet to see if I should have any concern for my cats behavior and potentially bring him in. The receptionist was rude, and said she refuses to give “medical advice” when I was not asking for medical advice. I just wanted to speak to a vet to see if it was worth calling off of work and bringing him in. Anyway, I called another emergency vet and he’s fine.

I have never written a negative review before, but if there’s one thing I don’t compromise on, it’s my dog’s health. I cannot recommend this office under any circumstances. This office is negligent, consistently miscommunicates, and takes no responsibility for its errors. Over just five days, I experienced multiple serious issues, but what pushed me over the edge was the following: We were told by the doctor that our dog’s lungs were fine, but that they would call us when the radiologist reviewed the report. The radiologist completed her review that same day, and stated he had pneumonia and should be on medication. We were never called with the results or informed that the radiologist report differed from where we left things in the office (keep in mind I paid $140 to have to radiologist review the report). It wasn’t until I called 5 nights later, to let them know my "healthy" dog was regressing, that we found out our dog had pneumonia and that treatment should have started days earlier, leaving him at home suffering unnecessarily. To make matters worse, when we finally learned days late, that the radiologist had reported pneumonia and recommended starting medication last Wednesday, the office told us to have our primary care vet handle the prescription. It was Sunday, and our vet wasn’t open until Tuesday. I had to insist that the VCA office fill the prescription immediately to avoid further delay in treatment. When I got home with the medicine, they had the audacity to send me a marked-up bill for the medication. I made it clear I would not be paying it. Had they contacted us Wednesday night, as their own process and contract require, I could have obtained the medication at a fair price from our primary vet first thing Thursday morning. Additionally, I was told my dog’s urine sample “came back clean,” only to find out upon reviewing the lab report I had to request be sent to me after 5 days, that no urine sample had been tested, and the report clearly requested a urine sample be returned within 30 days to be included in the lab work. The lack of accountability and professionalism is truly shocking. I have reached out to corporate and legal counsel due to the severity of these issues. This office’s negligence and poor communication put my dog’s health at serious risk, and I strongly advise looking elsewhere for veterinary care. The office manager is going to respond and try and smooth things over and pretend like they care, but it is an absolute hoax. I would drive my dog to a different state before getting him treatment here ever again. I have absolutely zero shock at the number of 1 stars this office has recently recieved.

Long wait with no communication between personnel and patients. Very unprofessional. Was told my cat needed an IV treatment for 50 minutes and after time was up, front desk told me treatment wasn’t even performed. 5 minutes later the doctor comes out with my cat saying treatment was performed. Very unprofessional.

This place is all about money and could care less about your animal. I brought my diabetic cat here because he wouldn’t eat, was constantly throwing up and going downhill fast. He was in their care for a week. Finally he was “well enough” to come home. He was discharged with medications. He was good for 24 hours. When he started throwing up again I called to speak to them to get some advice. No one called us back for 2 days and by then he was too far gone and we had to put him down. They literally called as we left his vets office. After spending around $3k a night there I would assume they would have more compassion but they couldn’t care less. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Truthfully, with all these bad reviews, I’m shocked that anyone goes there.
