I had taken our cats here for several years, but are now looking for alternatives. The place has gone downhill, possibly because of corporate (private equity) ownership. They're overpriced, short on doctors and staff, and when I tried to book our cat today to get her headcold looked at, they said they were booked for several days. Worse, their attitude was dismissive.

The free First time pet exam is a scam. They mislead you to get you there and then try to charge you $100 for vaccines in order to get the "free" exam.

WARNING!!!!! I paid nearly $600 for my visit, and the vet (Tarek Hendawy) had disappeared immediately. He was not available for me to ask my questions and concerns. I had the nurse reply to my questions/concerns with "I think." I didn't pay that much money for "I think". I came for answers to my questions and concerns about my dog's well-being. But this guy couldn't care less and just gave my dog a quick check up and left the room. I thought he was gonna come back. But he never did. I didn't even come for the check-up. I came for a specific reason/concern, which I made very clear when I made the appointment. Then they force me to buy their prescription rather than allowing me to get the prescription form so I can go to the pharmacy I already go to. I asked for chewable, but they don't provide that, they said. It is so hard to give my dog pills that are not chewable. The nurse just wanted me to leave immediately after the doctor left. I thought it was a joke because that was too quick. I didn't even get to talk to the vet about my concerns. So while I was still trying to wrap my head around that, I had stupidly agreed to an ear cleaning. I had the same products they used on his ears, at home from my other vet who gave them to me. I paid an extra $50 for this. I had asked for my dogs nails to be trimmed and even that was like too much. This was the FIRST TIME I ever saw my dog hate his visit to the vet. It broke my heart to see how he was treated. My dog was always treated with gentle hands (especially during Dr. Ruderman's time). And this time was completely different. I'm sorry, but this visit really, really upset me because I didn't pay all that money and still didn't have my concerns addressed, and stuck trying to force a pill he won't accept down my dogs throat. Waste of money and my time. All this showed me was that people who work here don't care about the well-being of animals, but the money coming in. This visit really broke my heart. Please, if you really care about your dog/pet and seek a team who also do, I advise you to go elsewhere. Staten Island is filled with other wonderful Veterinarians, even better for your pocket. You want someone who offers real solutions and not prolong situations. You shouldn't have to pay this ridiculous amount and still have to watch your loved pet suffer.
