My wife brought in our 14 1/2 year old mixed breed in for an evaluation. Our dog had been throwing up and was having diarrhea. We gave the vet a history of our dog ingesting inorganic material ( wall to wall carpeting) one day prior to his symptoms starting. She “examined” the dog and suggested we get an echo of his heart because of “murmur” she heard, order blood tests and suggest a battery of unrelated tests to his symptoms. We spent over $1,000 and not even a mention of maybe what he ate was causing his symptoms. No suggestion of an abdominal xray or ultrasound? Our poor dog suffered for a week with the same symptoms. We had him on probiotics and antibiotics and were about to euthanize him until one night while I was sitting with him he finally vomited a huge half digest mass of carpeting. I managed to pull most of it out of his mouth. But it was stuck in his throat. We are on our way to the animal hospital to address this but I had to share how incompetent and worthless these people are.

I have never written a negative review, until today. *** BEWARE LARGE BREED DOG OWNERS, DO NOT COME HERE*** I brought in my dog for updated vaccinations & blood work in May. We had been several times prior to acclimate her to the hospital and to ensure she has a positive time. When I had gone prior, I met with a kind male vet tech who complimented my dog’s training and good behavior. This time was entirely different. The YOUNG female vet seemed scared of my dog… even though she was muzzled. My dog has never once showed aggression, but I muzzle her bc I know she is a large breed. I gave my dog her proper dose of Trazadone as well to aid in any anxiety. Everything was great until they brought her to the back, I have no idea what they did to traumatize her back there.. but she came out terrified. Under normal circumstances, I would have taken her right home but we were updating her vaccines to ensure she could go to boarding while we got married. The vet was CONDESCENDING AND RUDE!!! She brought my dog back with another young female technician and my dog was terrified of them. Tail tucked, shaking, lip licking, peeing herself. They wrote in my notes alluding that it was my fault and she needed more medications and I was difficult. This doesn’t make sense because I work full-time at the same animal shelter I adopted my dog from and she has had the same amount of medication and was easy to restrain and vaccinate on such. Additionally, I am fear free certified and would never put my dog in a position like that again. Both the technician and the vet did a horrible job at restraining my dog and made me feel as if it was my fault that I needed it done? I will NEVER BE COMING BACK!!! I have always been loyal to VCA for my three animals, but I will be taking my business elsewhere. ALSO THEY CHARGE SO MUCH!!!! WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!!!! Vet seems extremely inexperienced and I work with professional veterinarians on a daily basis in the shelter.
