I used to be part of the VCA Puppy club at $120 a month for two Shih Tzu's. It paid for vaccinations and doctor visits. You just paid for the treatments. I was always treated with a lot of care and respect. It also gave me a reassurance that my puppies are being taken care of, properly. I opted out of the club because I retired and had to eliminate this expense. I took my dogs for a well visit and renewal of prescriptions , for heartworm, this Dec 1, 2025. Dr Audrey Kennedy was greeting us, very nice and interacted with my dogs very friendly. She suggested for the dogs to get a teeth cleaning, within a year, or so. She said she could set up an appointment, right now. Well, the last time I took one of my dogs for a cleaning I paid $850 there. His teeth were still brown. I told her I found a place that only charges $350. She replied well, ok, you can also get all your other needs done there, as well, if you want. I said no, that's ok, eventhough my bill was $450. What an attitude change. I don't know how much she makes at these prices, but I am retired with limited income. Thank you for the suggestion. I will go to the competition from now on.

Everyone at this location was very compassionate and kind when I had to make the decision to put my family dog down. They walked me through all the options and gave my sister and I time to make a very difficult decision. Even my sister, who is not an animal person, said that she was very impressed with their professionalism and caring nature. After Bongo was gone they continued to show kindness up until we left! I highly recommend them!

3 years ago I had a veterinarian prescribe an antibiotic to my dog that proved to be quite harmful to animals so I stopped it mid cycle. A few months later this caused the ends of his ears to be eaten up with what they thought was mange. The veterinarian at VCA west side discovered that the antibiotic that they had prescribed to him caused this, it was a side effect. Come to find out that antibiotic was the most overprescribed and abused antibiotic by a veterinarians. The VCA west side veterinarian prescribed Pentoxifylin and told me that it would help correct the issue with the infections on the tips of his ears. This was a very harmful drug prescribed by them for my dog. When I gave it to him he had begun bleeding from the infection spots on his ears. This drug causes an increase risk of bleeding and prolonged clotting time! I've never paid so much money to veterinarian companies to get such bad advice and harmful drugs given to my dog! So if you love your animals take them somewhere else!

THANK YOU, “DR” AUDREY KENNEDY, I sincerely hope that this makes those who are fighting for their fur babies' health think twice before visiting VCA West Mesa Animal Hospital. I have been taking my animals here for years however I will NEVER be coming back. My dog started having nose bleeds over a year ago, so we took him in. At first I was told the cause could be a million different things. I left upset with no answers and was given antibiotics to “make him feel better”. The nosebleeds began to happen more frequently and lasted longer so we took him back. We were told we needed to get a CT because there could be a tumor that was causing the bleeds. That scan was in no way cheap and solved nothing. I was told after this that his teeth are bad so it could be an abscess and to look into getting a teeth cleaning. Yet again no real answers and fishing for more money. Dr Kennedy suggested a blood pressure test and from that point on said the bleeds were happening because he had very high blood pressure. We retested every other week for MONTHS. I paid $55 EVERY time. That’s 100s of dollars gone. Eventually we got to a place where his blood pressure “came down” enough and we had figured out a dose that worked for him. I was hopeful this was the fix however the bloody noses just kept happening. We took him back multiple times after with the same result which was high blood pressure and to up his dose. A third medication was mentioned but she didn’t feel it would help. I was told it seemed that having him on these pills was keeping the bleeds “under control” and I didn't have to come back in to keep retesting. I was also told I can test him at home but given no explanation on how to properly do so. Anytime I called to refill the prescription they would tell me I needed to bring him back in. I was already paying roughly $60 for pills and now they wanted more money. I knew then I needed to stop taking my dog to VCA. I had doubts before but I tried to trust my dog was being seen by someone who knew what they were doing. I took my dog to another vet where they did blood work only to find out he was dying. He was in stage 4 renal failure. Not once did anyone at VCA mention doing more bloodwork. Every time I went back saying the bleeding was worse and would last up to 3 hrs at a time I was told “his blood pressure is high”. I had to put my dog down because he stopped eating, drinking and began walking like he was drunk, throwing up, and vomiting. 48 hrs after my last visit to VCA and hearing “up his dose” my dog went from being happy and playful to dying. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first animal in my family to have been treated by Dr. Kennedy and misdiagnosed. Both mine and my sister’s dog have been failed by this same person. I cannot imagine how many other families have had this happen to them. Do not go to VCA west animal hospital.

Yesterday morning was our Bella’s final visit to VCA. We had no idea how sick she was, but Dr Amy Thorud did. She recommended an entire work up because of what she saw and heard from Bella. Within minutes we knew that she had cancer that had spread to her lungs. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect Dr to help us say goodbye to our girl! She was the most caring and supportive woman, and I thank God for her presence there yesterday. Thank you, with all our hearts!!
