I’m going to entirely honest and include every detail about my experience ordering a refrigerator at Best Buy.
My fridge goes out so I am shopping around to see who can deliver a new one as quickly as possible. I see that Best Buy can get me one delivered in 3 days. I order the fridge, complete the checklist and move plans around to accommodate the delivery schedule.
The delivery day comes and they provide me a more accurate window for delivery & assign an agent. I check a little while later and the app says “reserving more” so I call support and the guy explains to me that their has been a delay (cool, understandable) so I ask if the fridge was at my local Best Buy as I NEED a fridge today as I have a wife and 3 children and I fortunately have a truck however I didn’t prefer to haul a fridge because you know, it’s a fridge. I tell the support agent not to change anything on the order as I’m going to hope it miraculously gets delivered today. As soon as I get off the phone I get a notification “your delivery has been rescheduled” and also get a notification from a random $40 charge from Best Buy?
So I head to the store, go up to customer service and explain everything, tell them I’m willing to pick up the fridge if it’s here & I’m willing to work with them however needed as I know retail jobs are quite stressful. She told me the fridge wasn’t at the store so I tell her I am willing to pick one out at the store and exchange it or whatever. I also was hopeful they’d work with me on the pricing since I had purchased one during the presidents day sale & was going to receive a $200 promotional gift card upon delivery and she explained the manager would be super helpful with that and head over to appliances.
On the way over to appliances I find an open box fridge that was the nicer model than the one I got for $200 more than the one I got. A gentlemen meets me in appliances and was super helpful (I want to give this entire star to them) I explained I’ll just take the open box one to make it easy as I could tell they were busy and I liked it anyways, just needed a fridge. He had to call the manager over since it was a confusing transaction.
The manager arrives & is trying to comprehend the situation. I can tell he was busy so I told him I have time if he needs to go help the others, he agreed and told me to tell the other guy not to mess with anything. I wait around for a bit and the manager returns to continue our transaction. He tells me we’re just gonna cancel the online order, there’s nothing we can do about the $200 gift card & the refund will take 10 days. I ask him if he can work with me on the price of the open box one due to the inconvenience and he says he can’t. I tell him it’s fine I just need a fridge and would like to figure out the mysterious $40 charge I got after speaking to support. He says he can’t do anything about it so I tell him I guess I’ll just reach out to support.
We get to the point of checking out and he asked if I wanted a credit card and I declined, he tried to sell me a $500 protection plan and I declined and then finally tried to sell me the Best Buy plus membership and again I decline. At this point I can visibly see he’s annoyed and I’m confused because I’m just trying to buy a fridge, didn’t give him any slack for not helping out my situation & was super polite and nice the entire transaction. So finally it’s time to pay, I noticed the Best Buy membership was tacked on & I have him remove it, he does and I pull out my card. He then comments that it’s a debit card and tried to sell me on the credit card again & I respectfully decline again. After that he hands me my receipt and walks away.
So now I’m trying to figure out where my fridge is & what I need to do next. I walk around for about 5 minutes before I go and ask customer service to what I need to do any they tell me to go pull my truck up to the door.
1 star because lack of empathy, left alone to figure out random charge & made to feel like I was only important if I applied for a credit card.
The staff here are great and it was simple to buy products! The place opened at 10am today (Saturdays) and it didn't mention that on the website, but it was the first day of them doing it!

Bought a tv, took it out of the box and it was cracked. Skip the customer service register and go right over to the tv area. They were very helpful, their in home installation crew is a different story. Many hours wasted waiting for an eventual no show. Then another appointment was canceled. Instal crew was great, scheduling is another story.
Never order delivery from any Best Buy. The delivery team was amazing…but corporate cancelled my delivery 3 times over the course of 3 months. I had to rent a truck to get the washer and dryer. Customer service was terrible, offered me a gift card instead of refunding my delivery fee. How can I use a gift card from a store I refuse to ever shop at again.

I truly used to love Best Buy stores. Everything from their staff to products was some of the best you could get. However that has changed and gone off the cliff over the past several years. Honestly, I think they’re heading down the same path as Radio Shack stores. Filled with people that don’t care about the customer. Would have given this review zero stars if that was an option!
I purchased a new TV from them recently. After going back and forth on the price and what they could discount if I applied for their credit card (a whole other fiasco) I chose to just purchase it straight out. Instead I opted to price match. No problem they said. I showed them the other price and they tell me they don’t think that they can go that low? This was a $70 difference on a $1200 television I’m asking to match. Nope, can’t go that low I’m told. They had already offered me $50 off if I applied for their card. Now the best they could do was $20 towards the price match? Absolutely disgusted.
I could have purchased the TV and had it shipped to me and gotten that lower price (not Amazon!) but I am not comfortable with that as an option. Too many horror stories of mis-handled shipments or mis-delivered items. So I ended up buying the TV. The $50 difference isn’t going to break the bank. After weeks of research and comparing models, I now have the TV I wanted. It is the principle of the whole experience. This is why I see Best Buy locations closing all over the country and I will be extremely surprised if they are still in business in 5 years.
So, Mr. Best Buy, please say Hello to my good friend Radio Shack when you get there!
EDIT: Contacted Best Buy per request below. They didn't care to learn any more about what happened. They only wanted my personal information. I was truly willing to talk and discuss everything that transpired, but, all they cared about was who I was.
