I brought my old laptop to them with a request that they please back up a specific OneNote notebook that I hadn't been able to back up myself, though I had managed to back up everything else on the device. For context, the notebook had functioned as my work calendar, address book, and journal for the past several years. The personnel at the desk said that they'd just go ahead and back up the whole laptop. I replied, sure, as long as they make sure to specifically back up the specific OneNote notebook, since that was the only thing that I actually needed backed up. When I returned for the laptop a few days later, when being checked out, I double checked to make sure the notebook I needed had been backed up. Lo and behold it had not. To her credit, the woman at the desk tried to fix this on the spot. Unfortunately, in her attempt she deleted the notebook. It was unrecoverable. In the future, I would request that the Geek Squad pay attention to their customers' requests and be straightforward about what they can or cannot do.
