I wanted to share my experience so others can make an informed decision.
While overseas, my iPhone 16 Pro Max suddenly stopped charging, leaving me without a phone for about six days. As soon as I returned to the U.S., I went straight to the Apple Store. Most of my data was backed up to iCloud, but because I didn’t have Wi-Fi during my trip, all of my overseas photos were still only on the phone. Losing those photos was a big concern, along with the impact to my authenticator apps.
After running diagnostics, Apple told me the phone needed a full logic board replacement, quoted over $500, and that this repair would erase all data on the device. This was presented as the only option. Based on that diagnosis, I decided to keep the phone as-is and purchase a brand-new iPhone instead.
Afterward, I took the original phone to a reputable third-party repair shop near my home. They were able to restore power to the device, get it fully charging again, and confirm the issue was simply a failed charging port. I was able to recover all my overseas photos and properly transfer my authenticator apps to the new phone. The cost: $140.
In short, Apple’s solution was over $500+ logic board replacement with total data loss for what turned out to be a charging port issue. Beyond the cost difference, the Apple approach also created unnecessary logistical issues with data recovery and authentication apps because individual component repairs aren’t offered.
It felt like the IT equivalent of reimaging an entire laptop just to fix a driver issue. Apple won’t suggest outside repair options, but in this case, that approach meant paying significantly more for significantly less.
I’ve been a long-time Apple customer, and this experience was disappointing. I hope Apple improves how repair options and diagnostic uncertainty are communicated, especially when the consequences are this significant.

I went to the Apple store to get a screen protector installed, and Chuck did a great job. He was also very friendly and did it quickly, and I was very satisfied. Thank you, Chuck.

This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I visited the Apple Store around 10:00 a.m. and was told there would be a two-hour wait. I returned at 12:00 p.m. as instructed, only to be told it would be another two-hour wait.
While waiting, I observed multiple customers—who appeared to be Caucasian—receiving help without long delays. Staff repeatedly stated that “everyone has an appointment,” but I intentionally stayed to observe, and it did not appear that most of the people being helped had appointments. As time went on and customers left, I still was not assisted.
I was the only Black customer in the store, and I felt completely ignored despite there being plenty of staff available. Several employees were standing around talking and socializing instead of helping me. When I was finally approached, it was only by Black employees, which made the situation feel even more uncomfortable and discriminatory—especially considering how many white employees were actively helping other customers.
This experience made me feel dismissed, disrespected, and discriminated against. Apple prides itself on inclusion and customer service, but this store did not reflect those values at all. I hope Apple leadership reviews how customers are treated at this location, because no one should feel invisible or singled out when simply trying to get help.

Such an awful experience today, I'm embarrassed I brought a friend along for company. Arrived at noon on a Monday, no appointment- 3 hour wait. Wasn't thrilled but I showed up as a walk in so I'll say that one was on me. Opted for their 6pm appointment instead. When I returned I was quickly shooed to the back and then onto the tables. Purpose of visit: Damaged screen on IPAD. I purchased Apple Care as this is my 8 year old’s device and the two previous times the screen got damaged- they provided replacements at the Apple Store. For whatever reason, when the associate was keying up my order, they stated the system flagged that the device must be sent out to a service center for inspection and my repaired device or a replacement would be shipped to me. I’m confused, I thought the Apple Store was a service center. Don’t they have a team of techs that could inspect it there? Told the associate this was my second visit today and asked for a manager to assist. Manager came by and told me they tried every possible way to override the request but couldn’t. Both the associate and the manager thought the request was strange yet at a company as large as Apple, they don’t give the manager rights to resolve a situation? In addition, they seat you at a table with all these other guests so as a customer I have no privacy and I had to manage my feelings of dissatisfaction with a stranger sitting directly in front of me. To avoid going back and forth, I accepted their resolution. Here’s the second fail of the night. There was a payment due and I came with cash. Was told if I paid cash, the replacement could not get shipped to me and I’d have to make a return trip to the store to pick up the replacement instead. Ridiculous! Again, requested a manager and they returned only offering to use my cash to purchase a gift card to pay which wouldn’t arrive till the next day. Why wouldn’t they have gift cards there? Makes no sense. The second manager that came by really missed the mark with me. I was no more than a number to them in which they provided me a memorized script versus making sure a customer’s concern is heard and truly helping. At this point, I’m ready to leave. Provided them a credit card as requested and it wouldn’t go through. Used a different credit card, also wouldn’t go through. The associate commented it could be my bank, Chase blocking the transaction. Reluctantly asked my friend if I could Zelle them and try their credit card since there used a different bank- that ALSO did not go through. Finally, the Apple associate stated the error was on their end and they would call me tomorrow for me to issue payment by phone. At my job, when hiccups occur you make up for it…to make the customer feel good. I left so unhappy, frustrated and disappointed and to think we only made it to submitting the request. We still need to make it through payment processing and delivering my product. Hopefully someone from Apple reads our reviews and cares enough to make our experience better from this point on.
