These guys really know how to botch a service request. Unless you’re going in for a hardware pickup, don’t expect much. Chat/Phone support are always your best bet when it comes to Apple services/products. Screenshare and talk it out with a real technician. Don’t waste your time in the retail circus. Genius Bar? Curtain call on that, y’all. Chopped sueyy

Don was amazing. He not only helped me with my purchase, but also gave me so many recommendations for what to do in Chicago, especially for someone like me who was visiting the city for the first time.

Came in because the original charging cable for my iPhone 16 Pro (less than one year old) has already developed two noticeable bulges along the wire. It’s been used normally, so this is clearly a quality issue. The tall male employee who helped me kept insisting that I needed the original receipt. I explained that I couldn’t find the physical receipt, but the phone is under one year and connected to my Apple ID. Instead of trying to look up the purchase, check the serial number, or suggest any other solution, he just repeated that a receipt was required and didn’t really try to help. He then told me to sit down and said someone else would assist me. But I saw him standing nearby chatting and laughing with another employee instead. That honestly made me feel brushed off. I understand stores have policies, but there should at least be some effort to help — especially when it’s clearly a product defect within warranty. Really disappointed with how this was handled.

I've had two poor experiences getting repairs here that I never had at the Apple Store at Lincoln Park for the same exact repair. I highly suggest avoiding this location, and I'll explain why. This location will consistently deny free repairs under policy. I've gone in before to get a free battery replacement for my iPhone under the AppleCare+ extended warranty I paid for specifically for this perk. I was turned away because of a single scratch on my screen. There's not a world where this impacts the repair, but I was given corporate mumbling about liability without using the word "liability". I went in today to pick up my laptop that was getting the logic board, top case electronics, and battery replaced for free. I tried to use that battery perk again when I walked in, and the employee looked over my laptop and said he'd upgrade the worn keyboard and replace the logic board for free. I asked if I could pay if there were complications. He laughed and said no this one is $0 cost. I signed and waited 5-7 days without my laptop, pausing my academic work. I purchased from Apple thinking I had some security with at least paying them when I had money and got into my education. On the seventh day I got a phone call and voicemail "we started the repair and need to order another part after trying to complete it, 2-3 days, call us with questions". Zero indication I need to follow up, no problems. Great my laptop has been opened and looked at, just a few more days. Five days later, yes FIVE days later I call in myself and the Genius Bar Repair Admin tells me the story is different. That phone call and voicemail was to tell me they discovered liquid damage and to verbally confirm a depot repair of 4-5 days I'd pay for. They either can't coordinate there or someone is lying because the recordings don't match and they talked about internally before explaining this to me. They asked me for $300 and frankly I'm unemployed. I'm scared and broke and I don't have that money and just wasted an additional eight days to be told a story that doesn't add up. I even HAD the money the day I walked in and they insisted no they don't need it. I asked for some kind of resolution and management handed it to me after telling me liquid damage overrides all repair. He did not acknowledge a problem as I pointed out that all components in the machine were promised to be repaired and given the screen is right in front of me and functional this is just a failure on their part to actually do the work and a fallback to an excuse that normally makes sense but does not here. Metal chassis don't break from liquid. The laptop *electrically* did not have issues when I handed it in, so they probably got two DOA logic boards at-cost and shunted the cost to me by policy hoping I'd cover under insurance. I will say Apple is not getting another cent of my money. I was handed back an "as-is" unit with a keyboard that was even worse now. Lincoln Park when I got the same logic board and top case replacement in ~2023 they let me pay on the spot to get it sent out to the depot. If you read this far, go there. At least in the suburbs they just make it straightforward. No games about liquid damage they just tell you it's at-cost same-day. No anxiety and no hassle, and they never called me later than their self-made estimates. The Michigan Park stories never add up from a logical POV only "liability" and "policy" and they turn you away without a thought. Big city.
