Home CareNursing/Convalescent HomesDisabled Persons Products & Services
A nursing home is not the only option. Consider a live-in carer with Affordable Live-in Homecare instead.
Nursing homes have a role to play when an elderly person is not medically well enough to continue living at home, but there is another option: A live-in carer from Affordable Live-in Homecare. It is a fact that there are a lot of elderly people going into nursing homes when home care is still a viable option. We are proud of the fact that we are enabling elderly people to postpone and sometimes avoid altogether the necessity to go into a nursing home.
Care at home has many advantages over nursing home care. Homecare means that your relative can continue to stay in their own home and be close to their family and friends

Frequently Asked Questions About Affordable Live in Homecare
How soon can I receive this service ?
Once we receive your application, we will be able to place a respite carer in your home within 2 weeks. The carer will arrive the day before the start date of her cover to do an induction/orientation with a relative or other nominated person to explain the role to the carer.
What kind of questions do you ask in the application form ?
We ask general questions about the elderly person who is in need of care. Our aim is to get as full and as accurate a picture as we can of the elderly person so that we can best match, you our client with the most suitable carer.
How long does it take to get a carer ?
Within 2-3 weeks of your application being submitted.
How many hours a week does the carer work ?
Normally they work 35 hours per week. You can make out a timetable for them according to your needs. If you want them to work more than 35 hours per week, then that is entirely up to you.
What about their accommodation, food and bills ?
You provide them with their own single room, food and you pay the household bills such as heating etc. Usually people have a spare room that isn’t in use. Also the additional food costs and bills are generally not very much. For example, you will need to heat your house anyway so the carer won’t add much to your household bills.
How much tax relief can I get ?
This depends on how much tax you pay. You can set the cost of the carer against your tax liability. You will be the employer of the live-in carer. This is a cost that you can reclaim tax on. The more tax you pay, the more tax you can reclaim. Everybody’s tax liabilities are different but if you wish to talk us we can calculate how much you can reclaim in tax. This tax relief applies for claiming tax relief where your relative is incapacitated.
How do you find these carers and where do they come from ?
Many of our carers come from Ireland as well as Eastern Europe and we recruit them ourselves. All our carers are interviewed, their references are checked and and they are police checked in their home country and Garda vetted here. They all have relevant carer experience and good English. We also provide them with ongoing training and support.
