  I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt this was worth sharing to help others. Every couple of years, when my mobile contract ends, I upgrade and sell my previous phone. This is now the second time I’ve tried selling to CEX, and unfortunately, I’ve had the same experience both times. On this occasion, my phone had been kept in a case from day one with a screen protector. I take good care of my devices, so I was confident it would qualify as Grade A. However, I was told it wasn’t—due to dust in the charging port (I only ever charge wirelessly, so it’s rarely used), slight dust around the camera, and “paint thinning” marks, which I’m honestly not sure how are assessed. To me, these seem like very minor issues—especially things like a bit of dust, which could easily be cleared with an air duster. It feels like the standard for “Grade A” is unrealistically high—perhaps closer to a brand-new device than a well-maintained used one. This mirrors my previous experience, where another well-looked-after phone was graded as B. In both cases, the phones included original boxes, and even the cables were unused. Because of this, I won’t be using CEX to sell phones again. I’ll likely stick with eBay or trade-in options through phone providers, which tend to be more straightforward and often offer better value—even without requiring original packaging. The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is that, this time, I received my phone back promptly after declining the offer. Previously, I had to chase this up, and I was told that if a device is left with them for two weeks, it may become their property (though I can’t confirm if this is correct). Summary: CEX may be fine for buying, but if you’re planning to sell, be prepared for very strict grading standards that are not realistic and will not match your expectations. A response from CEX is not required as there is nothing else to say!

  Lazy staff that won’t admit they’ve taken in the wrong disc for a game. Staff member was very rude & patronising and refused to check the other discs when we asked if he could check to see if they have the correct one & we were told “If it’s wrong you have 5 years warranty”, he really didn’t seem like he wanted to do his job. Out of all the cex stores I’ve been into this is the worst experience I have had. Not only that now we’ve got home and checked the condition of the disc it’s absolutely scratched.

  Uneducated, insulting staff. Bought an xbox series x game, staff put an xbox one disc in. Went to ask for correct disc only for staff to keep belittling me saying the disc has series x on it, clearly not knowing the difference in cross gen discs. He repeated that its the right disc about 6 times until I had to inform him I own hundreds of games and know the difference. Only then did he bother to look, but in the wrong section! I frequent CeX stores and this member of staff was woefully incompetent and incredibly dismissive. The staff ID was 62446 on the receipt, I think he would benefit from a tiny bit of training.

  I wasn’t very happy with my experience. The fact that the staff there aren’t very pleasant is one thing, we all have bad and good days but, this was something else. I wanted to sell my Xbox One, and after checking it, they told me the console didn’t work or wouldn’t connect to a TV. They said they had tried two different HDMI cables, but it still didn’t work. They even suggested I go to Cash Converters because “they won’t check if it works” which is obviously not true. I went there, and the guy simply plugged the Xbox into a TV, and it worked perfectly fine without any issues. So now I can’t decide whether the staff were just very careless or if they actually lied to me. Either way, it has disappointed me a lot, especially since I’ve been shopping at this store quite often.
