⚠️ WARNING – My experience with Erimus Engines ⚠️
I would strongly urge anyone considering using this garage to think very carefully.
I paid £2,700 to this garage and my car is still not repaired, leaving me with an unusable vehicle and thousands of pounds out of pocket.
In August 2025 I took my car to Erimus Engines after a timing chain failure and paid £2,210 for extensive engine work (the remaining amount related to general maintenance).
When the car was returned to me on 31 October 2025 the engine management light came on immediately and the car felt like it was going to cut out when pulling away. The car has never been returned to me in a fault-free condition and is currently unusable.
Despite paying thousands of pounds, the job has still not been properly completed and the fault remains.
I gave the garage multiple opportunities to resolve the problem:
• I took the car straight back and was told a camshaft sensor needed replacing. I paid an additional £160, but this did not fix the issue. I didn’t even get home before the engine management light came back on.
• I returned the car again and the engine management light was simply turned off, with a promise that I would be contacted the following day with a plan. I was never contacted and the fault returned shortly afterwards.
• I returned the car a third time and it was kept for over five weeks. I was then told a camshaft plunger had been replaced, but this also failed to resolve the fault.
I was eventually told that the camshaft itself now needs replacing as there is movement in it and that I would have to pay at least another £1,100 for this work to be done, work that I believe should have already been addressed during the original repair.
A timing chain failure can damage the camshaft, which should have been properly checked during the original repair. I was told it had been checked and was fine, so it is extremely concerning that the fault appeared immediately after the vehicle was returned to me.
To replace the valves, the camshaft had to be removed during the repair. If the camshaft was supposedly fine but the problem appeared immediately afterwards, it raises serious concerns about the quality of the work carried out.
I have also spoken to several garages who specialise in timing chain repairs for this model of vehicle, and they advised that when a timing chain fails the camshaft should normally be replaced because otherwise, as they put it, “you are just asking for trouble.” They also advised that the car should not be driven in this condition.
In other words, after taking £2,700 from me, my car is still not repaired and cannot be safely driven due to movement in the camshaft, which risks catastrophic engine damage.
After seeking advice from Citizens Advice Consumer Service (who act on behalf of Trading Standards and pass reports on to them), I formally requested a refund of £2,210 for the failed repair work and related costs.
A formal Letter Before Court Claim was sent giving the garage the opportunity to resolve the matter. This has been ignored.
I have retained full documentation of invoices, communications, and the advice I have received regarding this matter.
Unless this situation is resolved, I am prepared to pursue the next steps available to recover my money.
I will update this review if the garage chooses to resolve this situation and refund the failed repair.
This experience has been extremely stressful and costly. I would strongly advise others to carefully read the reviews before trusting this garage with their vehicle, and I sincerely hope no one else has to go through this experience.
