  After the problems that we encountered with our extremely poor choice of carpet and its fitting, I discovered a month ago that the carpet in my daughters room is not all one piece! The area that is the narrow alcove of her window is an off cut! The carpets were laid two years ago but her bed was positioned in the window and covered this area. The join was not visible when first laid but as this carpet moves, the separation is now noticeable. Like all the other exposed edges, it has started to fray. The window in her room is to become a door and her bed will move and the join will show. It is a completely unnecessary and cheap approach to laying a carpet which I had been told would be in one piece. This exposed edge will not withstand being at the entrance of a door and so I assume we will have to replace it. I believe that our selected carpet is fit only for an office or showroom with a basic skirting and no mouldings. There are six doors in our upstairs hall with curved mouldings and at almost every juncture the carpet has lifted, frayed or unravelled, despite the fitter returning to tack some edges. It is not obvious at a glance but I do not feel confidant in its longevity. The fact that I was informed of the possibility of it "flicking" due to the type of skirting we have, should have been reason enough to have been steered clear of this particular carpet. The metal door strip between the big bedroom and hall was ineffectual because the underlay in the hall is so much thicker than the preexisting underlay of the bedroom and so the carpet pulled out. We replaced it with a wider strip Derek provided and it has held but it was not possible to do this between the bathroom and hall and we have not come across anything suitable. We have put up with a loose and unravelling carpet at the door of the bathroom for over a year in the knowledge we will soon be renovating the bathroom and the floor will be altered! The irony is that I was so bombarded with information when in the showroom that I was under the misconception that I was in very good hands. In all honesty, if the fitter/s had spent half as long fitting the carpet as Derick spent describing in detail every one I glanced at, then perhaps even this one might have sufficed.
