I’m furious. In June I came into Cex to purchase a new phone with my mother, I asked to view an A grade iPhone 13 Pro which the shop assistant took out the display case for me to inspect. I asked if it could be powered on so I could check the battery health and other specs to which the assistant said “it’s dead right now and would take too long to charge” - we ended up buying the phone after feeling awkwardly pressured by the assistant. I then went abroad on holiday and the phone’s display stopped working entirely, with only a small strip of the top of the screen visible and the rest completely black. I had to replace the screen and then brought the phone back as soon as I could for a warranty test. Cex refused to take the phone back as it had already been repaired and a few days later the screen broke once again. I once again tried to have the phone repaired but was turned away and had to pay a second time for the screen repair. The screen broke again in November and when I took it to a repair shop they informed me that the battery under the screen was an aftermarket battery that had been expanding inside the phone and pushing against the display, causing it to break repeatedly. I paid for the new battery and screen and once again returned to Cex to see if anything could be done and was once again turned away. A few weeks ago, dead pixels appeared in the bottom left hand corner of the phone and the following day lines began to appear across the display and I took it in to see what could be done and unsurprisingly was turned away,. At this point, I have spent as much on repairs as I spent on the phone in the first place and have not yet been able to afford another repair considering this is a futile endeavour. As of yesterday, when charging the phone it has started to become increasingly hot and the dead pixels are starting to increase.
All of this is to say Cex has sold me a phone they claimed to be grade A with a hoard of problems with the display, battery and possibly even the processor and refused to allow me to inspect the phone before purchase, costing me hundreds of pounds in repairs. This faulty phone should not have been for sale and I feel the warranty was not fairly honoured and my consumer rights have been heavily violated. At this point I just want to get rid of this piece of junk but am not able to trade it in due to its horrific condition. It is an absolute scam to charge £400 for a phone in this condition and I would warn anyone looking to buy from this place against it.
