I'm sure that the owner will dispute this but if you look at all of my other reviews, you see I rarely leave a poor review but I feel that this service was so poor.
1. Richard collected our late nans rocking chair in March 2026, giving a cost of £450 to strip it and re-upolster it, in £10 sq metre material.
2. This price increased to £895 based on the material we chose. We paid a 50% deposit at this point.
3. Despite repeated chasing, we could not get even a vague date of when the chair would be ready. All we got were vague messages like "it'll be going to the polishers next week "
4. After two months I visited the company and found that the chair hadn't been touched. I was given excuses about how busy they were but that does excuse the misleading information he'd been giving us. With hindsight I should have taken the chair back at this point.
5. I attempted to tie Richard down to a timescale for the work being completed and said I would be expecting regular updates, which we started to receive.
6. On the 24th June Richard sent us a WhatsApp message (his preferred form of communication) saying the chair was ready, along with a picture... but he'd used the wrong material.
7. When challenged about this, he initially claimed it wasn't until I gave him the time/date of the message specifying the material we ordered.
8. He later claimed that his supplier had sent him the wrong material, twice, but it had got the correct details on the packaging. That may have been the case but his quality controls should have said that this is brown, black and white, and my customer ordered black and white.
9 We eventually collected our chair at the end of July, some four months after Richard took it away.
10. At this point Richard was still demanding full payment and when challenged on the increase in price from the estimate to the quote he stated the cost of the material and the increased cost of polishing, which he didn't at the point of the quote.
11. After some negotiation, Richard did offer a discount for all of the stress caused by this.
If he'd been honest at the beginning and said that due to workloads it would be four months before the chair would be ready, we could have made an informed decision but that wouldn't excuse the poor and misleading communication. I will say that the quality of the upholstery is good
