  Had a kitchen fitted by them quite a few years ago and felt compelled to review after seeing their recent advertising. The quality of the tradesmen they sent was incredibly poor. The fitter ripped out the old units and was prepared to cover up a live, slow water leak behind one of them without fixing it—if I hadn't spotted it myself, the brand new units would have rotted. The plasterer they supplied did an atrocious job on the ceiling working off a stepladder. When I complained, Checkers sent someone out who claimed they 'could find no problem'. I had to fire them mid-job, hire my own proper plasterer (who used stilts and did a flawless job), and hire an independent fitter to finish the kitchen. Substandard workmanship and zero accountability when things go wrong."

  We have just had three sets of bedroom wardrobes and a kitchen pantry unit fitted by Checkers of Churchtown and I cannot praise them highly enough. The whole process was dealt with thoroughly professionally and this started immediately with the helpful staff that we spoke to initially in the shop and then from the designs provided by Tony Kavanagh, A lovely man who listened carefully to everything that we wanted and ensured that it was all incorporated into the final plans. We were lucky enough to get a reasonably prompt installation date and the component parts were delivered promptly and carefully to our apartment. The fitter who dealt with the wardrobes, Phil, was meticulous in ensuring that the fitted wardrobes were carefully scribed around the skirting board as required in a listed building and he was flexible enough to make a few small adjustments to the original plans to ensure that we have the maximum amount of storage space. The fitter who created our kitchen pantry unit, John was equally professional and meticulous and he too did an absolutely wonderful job. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company as my experience with them was excellent !

  Highly recommended, purchased a range cooker Tuesday, delivered Wednesday and fitted Thursday. Friendly and personable to deal with and great fitters too. A professional service and local. Support your town.

  I'm very very disappointed with Checkers. I went here because it is a local business rather than a soulless national company. I thought this would mean good customer service if there were any issues either at the time or later. Wrong! Once Checkers had finished the installation of a new kitchen, their after sales Customer Service was disgraceful. It was totally non existent. They were totally intransigent about an installation problem which caused the end floor to ceiling unit/ wall to collapse taking with it all the interior shelves and everything (mainly irrepaceable inherited glassware) on the shelves being smashed. Their Customer Service department (Stuart) said initially that I should have noticed that the 'kitchen installer' had glued the shelf & wall components together (including the end 'wall') - with no support brackets! I pointed out that I am no expert in fitting a kitchen... that I had trusted them to do that. He also said it was probably the weight on the shelves - which it wasn't. Then said any guarantee was for problems "which manifest themselves within twelve months" of installation. I pointed out that the glue would obviously take longer than twelve months to dry out. Then he said we had no guarantee because the kitchen fitters were not direct employees - they were all contracted out. He then asked me to send photos of the problem. Which I did. When I pursued it further, he said their computer system had been updated so he had no record of the fitters! I would not recommend this company to anyone. If you have an issue - as you can see from the foregoing - they are not interested. The really sad part is that I got a local joiner in to do the repairs. He was shocked there were no support brackets and said the unit would be fine once he installed support brackets. It was not an expensive job! Checkers have really let their reputation down.
