Further update:
My dad has made yet another trip to Tesco Mobile. He now has to wait in all day tomorrow for them to collect the third faulty phone they gave him. As it couldn't be left in store apparently, much better to further inconvenience your 82yr old customers. The utter contempt shown by Tesco towards loyal customers is simply unbelievable.
EDIT 11TH APRIL 2025:
My dad needed a new phone, so the only place we thought about going was Tesco Ballymena. As of today's date, he has made 6 visits to 2 different mobile stores and still doesn't have a working mobile phone from Tesco. Last visit, we'd given up on getting a working phone and simply wanted to cancel the phone contract and move to SIM only, with some data (as I gave him an old Samsung smart phone of mine which he is reluctantly learning to use - and he's had no problems with the signal or SIM since switching it into a 6-ish yr old S10, so it's definitely the Tesco phone's issue.) Firstly, we were told the manager wasn't there, to come back on Thursday. I showed the sales consultant the call log on my phone to prove the issues (calls not connecting or connecting and dropping - up to 17 calls for a 5 min conversation, sometimes you just couldn't get through.) My dad went back alone on Thursday as I'd had to return to Edinburgh- the manager wasn't there. The person who was there tried to help, but apparently my dad was outside the 30 day window so couldn't cancel the contract without buying it out for the remaining 2 year term - ie paying for the remaining 2 years, at a cost of far more than the phone and still not having a working phone!!!! The fact that the phone has never worked, despite getting replaced, was apparently irrelevant. The fact that my dad has been running backwards and forwards to Tesco for the last two months and trying to struggle on with what is clearly a defective product - irrelevant. The fact that an 82 yr old who lives alone on a fairly remote farm was going to be left without a working mobile? Irrelevant. It was outside the 30 day window and that was that. To add insult to injury, my dad finally agreed to have the faulty phone sent back to be fixed, despite just wanting to cancel the contract as he had had enough and has no interest in even trying to use the phone again. Then the computer system crashed. This last visit took up the best part of an hour (in addition to travel time) and he's somehow in a worse position. Please note that the phone in question is a Doro and so is a very cheap phone designed for the elderly with no Internet capability. All we wanted was to switch to a Tesco SIM only contract with data, so as not to risk him being charged with data. But instead my dad has wasted yet more of his time, and is disgusted with Tesco, as am I, and Tesco HO have proven to be utterly ridiculous and totally inflexible. This is Ballymena - do you think we will ever say anything positive about Tesco mobile again? Do you think I'll be taking any more of my elderly relatives there or recommending it as a good place to go? Even one lost sale as a result will more than offset the cost of actually allowing my dad to move to a different contract. (And indeed, there's already been one lost sale as my contract is up next month and I certainly won't be considering Tesco.) The staff have tried to be helpful but Tesco is clearly a big company that just doesn't care about it's customers and leaves the staff to deal with the fallout.
OLD REVIEW:
Deleted my 5 star review because the contempt shown towards customers & my dad in particular by management makes me so angry that I no longer even want to be fair.
