On 4 August 2026, I attended my GP practice for a scheduled blood test. As I usually do, I arrived well before my appointment time. While waiting, I observed that there was only one patient attending for a blood test, and the blood test room did not appear to be busy. Despite this, I was not called at my scheduled appointment time and waited considerably longer before eventually being seen.
The member of staff took my blood sample, and I then left the practice. Following the blood test, I developed a bruise at the venepuncture site, which caused me discomfort.
Three days later, I received a phone call informing me that my blood sample had haemolysed and that I would need to book another appointment to have the test repeated. A haemolysed sample is generally associated with the blood collection or handling process, meaning the original sample could not be analysed.
As a result, I have been significantly inconvenienced. I now have to arrange another appointment, which can take time to obtain, attend the practice again, and potentially arrive late for work or use additional annual leave. This situation could have been avoided if the original blood sample had been collected successfully.
I appreciate that mistakes can happen, but I am disappointed that I have had to bear the consequences of an unsuccessful blood sample. In addition to the inconvenience, I was left with bruising following the blood test and now have to undergo another venepuncture because the original sample could not be used.
I would appreciate an explanation of what happened and what steps the practice will take to reduce the likelihood of this occurring again for other patients.

Revised review - I’ve been coming to this GP since I was a child and whilst it hasn’t always been the best, I can definitely say it has significantly improved. Huge shout out to Nurse Geraldine for being so lovely, caring and just a joy to speak with. Feeling really appreciative and grateful. Thank you Hazeldene! 🙏🏽
I was told by a receptionist that I can't book an appointment with a doctor and to fill out an online consultation form which I had already done and its already taking a few days to receive a response. Its absurd that an appointment can't just be scheduled over the phone!
I have always found it easier when patients could speak directly to the reception team at their GP practice. Since the introduction of the centralised call handling system, the process feels much less personal and more frustrating.
I recently called the practice to make an appointment and my call was disconnected without any warning. When I called back, I was told it was because I had “raised my voice”. I do not accept that this was the case. I did not raise my voice or shout. I was not rude, abusive or disrespectful, nor did I use any offensive language. I simply wanted to understand what had happened and make an appointment.
I felt it was unfair to assume that I had raised my voice and to use that as the reason for disconnecting the call. I naturally have a loud voice, but that is not the same as shouting or being aggressive. If a member of staff feels a call needs to be ended, they should first explain that they are going to disconnect the call and give the reason, rather than simply hanging up on a patient without warning.
I also found communication difficult at times, which made an already frustrating situation even harder. It made me think about patients whose first language is not English, as they may find the centralised call handling system even more challenging to navigate. Good communication is essential in healthcare, and patients should feel listened to, understood and treated with respect.
Once you are able to see a Dr or nurse, the care is generally good. My concern is with the process of accessing an appointment. Having to go through a centralised call handling system rather than speaking directly to the practice makes what should be a straightforward process feel unnecessarily difficult and impersonal.
For that reason, I have given this surgery a one star review. My rating reflects the appointment and call handling process, not the care I have received from the GPs themselves. I hope the practice and GP Pathfinder Clinics review the way calls are handled and consider how the current system affects the patient experience. Patients should be able to access their GP without unnecessary barriers and should always be treated with courtesy, respect and dignity.
I was scheduled 3 times never get blood test there every time rescheduled appointment even you are on time bcz Dr not available either nurse on her holiday that’s why I’m paying My NHS so I can get rescheduled appointment and get worse treatment like I’m free for whole year their receptionist staff was insane don’t know how to talk politely even you are polite to them like they own the GP kind of behaviour! I just change my GP let’s hope it will better than this.
