I recently visited CeX to sell some RAM and was told by staff that it was DDR4, which they valued at around £6 per stick. Based on that advice, I was led to believe the parts were low value. However, I had recently purchased DDR5 RAM from CeX for the same computer, and it fit and worked perfectly. When I questioned this in-store, I was told that some computers can use both DDR4 and DDR5, which I have since confirmed is incorrect. After checking the original RAM myself, it is clearly labelled as DDR5 (PC5-5600), which CeX lists at around £31 per stick. That’s a significant difference in value and shows the information I was given was inaccurate. The issue isn’t the pricing it’s the incorrect technical advice. For someone less familiar with PC hardware, this could easily lead to selling valuable components for far less than they’re worth. I would recommend that customers double-check their hardware specifications before relying on in-store advice.

I brought in a graphics card and monitor for assessment and resale. The graphics card was in perfect working condition and had originally been purchased for £900. After inspection, I was offered £180. Although I felt this was a significant undervaluation, I reluctantly agreed to proceed. I was informed that the graphics card would be tested later that afternoon (approximately two hours after drop-off) and that payment would be issued within 30 minutes to one hour following completion of testing. However, 24 hours passed with no payment, no email, and no phone call providing any update. It was only 28 hours after drop-off that I was contacted and told that the graphics card was “running too hot.” This is extremely concerning, as the card was operating at normal temperatures with no issues prior to being handed over. Based on this, I am left questioning whether the item may have been mishandled or damaged while in the store’s possession. The lack of communication, failure to meet the stated timeframe, and sudden claim regarding performance have resulted in a very disappointing experience. I feel my time was wasted, the item was significantly undervalued, and I am now concerned about the condition of my property. I would appreciate clarification regarding the testing process carried out and the condition in which my item was handled.

Extremely poor experience Damaged product, refusal to exchange, violation of consumer protection act Bought a new poster with my son today using his Christmas money. When opening poster it was damaged On returning to the store, a replacement was refused with the suggestion we might have damaged the product. The manager dealt with the situation very unprofessionally and was rude and dismissive when I asked how to complain. Other shoppers commented on his rude manner. I am concerned that if products are damaged or faulty it may not be dealt with fairly due to instore policies that appear to violate consumer protection Very unhappy customer
