Having previously failed multiple driving tests with different instructors, I was really struggling with manual driving and starting to think I might have to switch to automatic.
Phil stepped in at the very last minute to take me to a test I’d booked. I didn’t pass that time because I wasn’t ready, but he still stuck with me afterwards, and with consistent lessons, patience, and his support, I eventually passed.
What made Phil so different was his meticulous approach to teaching. He showed me techniques I’d never been shown before and gave me a clear, consistent plan for every situation, especially how to anticipate what was happening instead of just reacting. That completely changed how I approached roundabouts, giving way, and driving at higher speeds, and it really improved my confidence. For example, before learning with him, I thought you always had to take roundabouts in 2nd gear, but Phil taught me how to adapt to each situation. He also gave me clear, reliable parking reference points that made everything much more manageable.
He always took the time to explain why I was doing something, not just what to do, and that helped everything make sense and made things easier to remember. Each lesson felt structured and purposeful, and I could see myself improving every time.
Phil is kind, patient, understanding, punctual, and incredibly thorough. He went out of his way to help me on multiple occasions, even at short notice and on weekends, and I could see he genuinely cared about helping me pass. After four previous instructors, I can honestly say Phil was by far the best and the one who made the difference. He really reworked my thinking and corrected mistakes I’d picked up before, and now I feel confident and happy on the road. I’m really grateful for all his support and would recommend him to anyone learning to drive.
