I visited CeX hoping to exchange two PlayStation 4 consoles, three controllers and a number of games. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.
From the outset, the staff were not particularly welcoming or forthcoming. A lot of gaming-specific jargon was used, which I repeatedly had to ask them to explain. I appreciate that CeX is a gaming and technology retailer, but if a customer is unfamiliar with the terminology, I would expect staff to explain things clearly rather than assume they understand it.
I was then asked to come back in around 45 minutes while the consoles were being tested. I was completely happy to do this and understood that testing takes time. However, when I returned, I was told that one of the consoles could not be accepted because the controller supplied with it was not an official Sony/PlayStation 4 controller.
This was particularly frustrating. Surely, if you work in a gaming store and are inspecting the items when they are handed over, this is something that could have been identified and communicated to me at the beginning. I would then have known immediately and could have made other arrangements, rather than wasting 45 minutes waiting for testing to be completed.
The explanation was also delivered using gaming jargon that I again had to ask them to clarify. There was no clear verbal or written explanation setting out exactly what the issue was with the item or what would have been required for it to be accepted.
After leaving, I subsequently sold both PlayStation 4 consoles online within around half an hour for more than CeX had offered me. Given the experience, the valuation and the poor stand-offish customer services, I genuinely struggle to see the benefit of using the store. Avoid!

Editing to add this in response to CeX’s reply: My email enquiry thread is already closed. The day I wrote this review (may have been the day before) I told the person I was speaking to that I no longer want to continue communicating with him because of how unhelpful he was. Every time I try to contact CeX through whichever means they say go back to the email thread as if I haven’t explicitly said I don’t want to talk to that person anymore.
Review: Never buying from here again or from any CeX store for that matter. My experience that I’ve had since purchasing a laptop from this store has been nothing but so terrible that I don’t even want to step foot in a CeX store again, when I’ve spent over a thousand in total on CeX products in just the past year.
Purchased a gaming laptop in July that I then discovered had a battery health of 34% when I bought it. Got told through an online enquiry ticket that a repair would be covered by my warranty, and I’ve also been told by the manager of another store as well as by CeX support on X that there are stores capable of performing in-store repairs (which would better suit me as I need my laptop almost every day for uni, I cannot wait 2 weeks for it to be sent to a third-party repair centre that CeX works with. I’ve also been told by a manager that a partial refund would be possible to cover the the cost of having to go to a different repair shop myself instead, as well as a goodwill gesture to compensate for the disgraceful deception I faced when purchasing the laptop (I was told it was in perfect condition, just for it to have a severely degraded & defective battery), however every time I enquire about this I am told that people in store do not have the authority to do this, and I’m told to fill in an enquiry form instead. So I did so, just to go back and forth with somebody for over a week with someone constantly telling me to just get a full refund and replacement. I do not want a full refund nor do I want a replacement as there are no other laptops within the price I bought this one for across ANY CeX stores that come remotely close to the specs of the one I have.
I want what I PAID for. I paid for a £780 laptop (traded in MULTIPLE devices to even be able to afford it) under the false pretences of it being in great condition, and I feel extremely deceived and disrespected by having to deal with a situation where I’m stuck in a loop of being told to go online and open a ticket, and then being told to speak to someone in store, then having to open a ticket, then going back to the store, all to no avail. The idea of it even being possible
to send my laptop to a repair centre for 2 weeks wasn’t even mentioned until 2 days ago, several weeks after I even first raised the issue with my laptop to CeX in the first place.
I am utterly appalled and disappointed with the quality of this laptop, the deception, the customer service, and this cycle that I am stuck in unable to get to an agreement with anybody on how to move forward.
I am not the type of person to leave negative reviews on a business and I have never written a 1-star review for a company EVER as I will always try to give the benefit of the doubt, however CeX has completely lost me and this honestly saddens me as I’m an extremely frequent customer across multiple stores. I’ve bought consoles here, controllers, video games, I always tell my friends to go to CeX for tech & gaming products (I’m a firm believer in purchasing second-hand and rejecting mass production, so CeX was perfect to me). It’s an extreme shame that I can no longer trust CeX again knowing how poor the service in-store and online is when you do have an issue with a product you’ve bought.

My account was suspended because I sold to multiple stores in one day when I was advised by the store to sell to different stores because they can’t take more than 2 of my items at once. I’ve never stolen or been rude to staff or sold counterfeit items. I feel that this is very unfair treatment as it only happened one day and I was never even given another chance. This is so unfair. I wish someone had explained the policy to me before hand. My case number via email is 3792989

Real good store for Gaming fans and Film enjoyers, they basically have everything for a game console the second it releases, i went to CeX a couple weeks after the Switch 2 released and they had ~two whole shelves worth of games for it, Impressive!!
I'm currently saving for Wii Sports (alongside a couple proper wiimotes) and a 3DS (since i regret selling mine.)
CeX has also been the place of which they repaired my many Nintendo Switches (and sadly pronounced a few dead, R.I.P switches.) and got all my Amiibo.
I really do reccomend this place, for it's prices and it's services.
