Went to the CeX store in Bournemouth today to trade in some old items(Switch, a couple of iPhones an iPad and a Android phone) and look at getting a new tablet(most likely an iPad) with the credit, the gentleman that helped us in beginning started well by giving us his estimate on some of the items and we picked out a tablet that would fell within our price range with these estimates in mind. He put this item aside while the items got tested. Fast forward three and a half hours while they tested and we walked back in and they advised that the Switch we had taken in had failed the tests because of a screen ‘flicker’. This immediately seemed strange to me because I know that my partner whose Switch this was was playing on this Switch earlier this morning before I transferred all her items over to a Switch 2 that we got her before resetting this Switch. I voiced my concerns to the gentleman and he advised that he had seen it himself but would check with his manager who had tested it. He came back and his tone had changed saying that there was a ‘flicker’ and after my partner who is autistic and does not like confrontation protested it he doubled down and said there was a flicker. My partner took this to heart and felt like she was being called a liar, asked that gentleman return all our items. Fast forward to when I arrived home and put the Switch on the TV to test (see I’m an IT engineer who tests equipment regularly) and after running several tests both docked and undocked I cannot get the ‘flicker’ to reoccur even after 2 hours of testing. Now I’m unsure what the testing process is like at CeX but I can say with certainty that that there is no fault on the equipment we brought. Now my mind has 2 possibilities running through it being a technical person myself. First theory, the HDMI cable or Port being plugged into on the testing TV at the store is broken that leads to a question has a lot of things tested at this store shown this ‘flicker’? The second theory is that the store has been told to not take any Switch’s in which I think is poor practice. If this is the case just tell me that you can’t take it don’t call us liars. I will be calling the head office tomorrow to lay a complaint. I have taken video’s of my testing process in case you’d like to train your staff.
