I recently visited CeX hoping to sell a piece of technology. Unfortunately, the experience left me disappointed. Not because the item wasn’t accepted, but because of how the situation was handled.
From my perspective, good customer service is not always about saying “yes” to everything. It is about communication, understanding, and helping customers find a reasonable solution.
A strong work ethic in the technology trade industry should involve properly assessing an item, testing its functionality, explaining any issues clearly, and offering guidance where possible. If a device works correctly but has a small replaceable part missing or damaged, a customer-focused approach would be to explain the available options rather than leaving the customer feeling dismissed.
I completely understand businesses need standards, policies, and quality control. These things are important for protecting both the company and future buyers. However, the way information is delivered matters. A simple explanation such as “this is what prevents us from accepting it today, and this is what you could do next” can completely change a customer’s experience.
Customers remember how they are treated. Respect, communication, and willingness to help are what encourage people to return.
This is not about claiming one person knows better than an entire company. It is simply feedback from a customer perspective: good service is not only about the final answer, but the effort made to help someone understand that answer.
