  We visited CEX Kendal on Saturday 27th June to trade in an iPhone 16 Pro Max, in what we deemed Grade A condition. My partner had upgraded, so we wanted to trade in for cash. The iPhone had been purchased by ourselves directly from Apple less than 12 months previously. We approached the counter, removed the phone from the box to show staff and were told ‘that’s not Grade A - it’s Grade B’. We were stunned. The phone had protectors on the screen and camera from the moment it left the box, and a case. Undamaged. There wasn’t a mark on it. We were told it needed all original accessories to be Grade A condition. We hadn’t taken the cable. We said we’d return with the cable to trade in, we were then told it wouldn’t make a difference. So, we were offered £421. Grade A condition paid £499 which is what we expected. CEX are selling this particular phone for around £900. I appreciate it’s a business, but I feel like they were trying to exploit quick cash. We didn’t need or want quick cash, so we walked away. I thought I’d have a dabble elsewhere, I didn’t want to sell on eBay, I didn’t want the hassle or the scammers which I’m sure is how most feel so I had a look on comparative companies for cash value. Mazuma mobile, Grade A condition £585 offered. Packaged it up, generated the label, posted it. Paid same day they received. The entire £585 Grade A condition. Had CEX offered to pay the £499 offered on their website, they’d have took it unknowingly to us that we’d get more elsewhere. Thanks for your awful customer service, it paid.
