  I’d give this store a half star review if I could, but this will have to suffice. I sold them my Xbox One and two Xbox One controllers, it had been several days and I did not receive the agreed upon bank transfer so I went in store to inquire as to why that was. I was then told bluntly that the items had failed the in store tests, I told them that I was confused as I tested them myself before bringing them in because the Xbox One has a setting where it allows you to test any and all controllers that are paired to it, I asked why I would intentionally bring items in that are faulty knowing full well they would test them and would refuse payment if they failed these tests. I was met with a very condescending attitude by the individual on the till, saying they use “very specific testing facilities” and proclaimed “Oh you tested it on your TV?” as if I have an IQ in the minus numbers and they possess some patented out of this universe technology unavailable to us common folk to test devices. He then told me “I’m supposed to believe they worked when you brought them in, but it doesn’t work the other way around?” I was bewildered by this egregious excuse for customer service given that I tested them thoroughly before bringing them in and the fact I pride myself on being an honest person and so I left and made clear that I hope that my goods have not been tampered with as they worked perfectly fine when I brought them in so it is very suspicious that they somehow don’t after they tested them. I have absolutely no guarantee that they wouldn’t have waited until I was no longer eligible for a refund then sold on my goods for their own profit. They are quite prepared to sell items covered in filth and scratches as if they are like new, yet refuse to accept regular working goods. I have advised my family and friends to steer clear of this store and from the reviews I am clearly not alone in my negative experience here. It begs belief as to how they stay afloat if this is how they conduct their business. CEX is a truly double edged sword it seems.

  I recently bought a second hand iPhone from the store unfortunately, it had an intermittent fault. They were unable to replace it so, I received a full refund. A big shout out to Jamal and James who dealt with this issue in a very pleasant and professional way. They were pleasant and kind to me and I am very grateful for the way my issue was dealt with. Thank you so much Jamal and James,

  Went into store yesterday to sell a phone. Was told there was moisture in the charging port and that they would have to take it as non working. Decided to take the phone back, checked it all over at home and there was no issues with the charging. I've taken it elsewhere and got an instant payout for more money!

  Not the greatest experience at the Altrincham store. Staff don’t seem to care and not helpful. Taken my laptop to exchange for cash and I had automated email saying it failed the test. No explanation why. No call, just an email to come and collect my item. The staff served me on the day did take my number twice and advised they will call me if anything happens. I turned up at store and was told the battery is not a sufficient charge to accept for exchange. Which I find confusing as batteries do degrade after use. The laptop I have is coming up 2 years old, so yes the battery will decay through out time. Some of the items you have on store display are much older than my laptop. I decided to go to my local CEX and they advised me the serial number is slightly scratched and they can’t take it in. Which a fully accept the reason. They then offered alternative places which may accept my laptop and apologise they cannot accept at this point. Wasn’t expecting an apology from staff, but appreciated their honesty. The store staff at the altrincham should have told me in the first place before taking it for testing. This is the 2nd time it’s happened going in to trade tech at the store and yet another bad experience.I love CEX but I feel the staff seem nonchalant and think of any excuse not to accept items. Not sure I will be returning into the Altrincham store anytime soon.
