Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Disrespectful and Discriminatory Treatment at Tesco Mobile
Dear Tesco Customer Services,
I am writing to formally complain about the treatment my wife and I received at Tesco Mobile, Skimpot Road, Dunstable, LU5 4JU, on 10 June 2026 at approximately 6:00 PM.
We visited the store to enquire about purchasing a new mobile phone for my wife. We are both existing Tesco Mobile customers and expected to receive professional and respectful customer service. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and upsetting.
When we arrived, the staff member, Zana, appeared to be occupied with her phone and chatting rather than assisting customers. From the beginning of our interaction, her attitude towards us felt unfriendly, dismissive and impatient.
During the process, we were instructed to enter information ourselves on the screen with very little assistance. This was very different from our previous experiences with Tesco Mobile, where staff members normally guide customers through the process and assist with entering information when required.
My wife is currently pregnant and has limited knowledge of mobile phone specifications. As the phone was intended for her, she was asked various technical questions regarding RAM, storage and other specifications. She was understandably unsure how to answer some of these questions.
As her husband, I attempted to help her understand the options and discuss the specifications. However, I was repeatedly told that I could not answer questions on her behalf because the phone would be in her name. We were effectively prevented from discussing the purchase together, even though I was simply trying to help my wife make an informed decision.
What made the situation even more upsetting was that we were discouraged from speaking to each other in our own language. We were told to speak English while discussing the phone options. We found this inappropriate and unnecessary, as we were simply communicating as husband and wife in order to understand the information being provided.
Most concerning of all, a comment was made suggesting that our own country may be better if we wished to speak our language. We found this remark deeply offensive, disrespectful and completely unacceptable. Such a statement made us feel unwelcome and singled out because of our language and background.
The overall experience left us feeling humiliated, uncomfortable and extremely disappointed. We have visited Tesco stores on many occasions and have never experienced treatment of this nature before.
I believe every customer should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their nationality, language or background. I therefore request that Tesco investigate this matter thoroughly, review any available CCTV footage and speak with the staff member involved.
I would appreciate a written response regarding the outcome of this complaint and any action taken following your investigation.

Excellent service from Stefan today. I ordered my new phone on Monday and it was delivered today. I took it into the phone store so that I could transfer everything from my old phone to my new one and keep my number. Stefan was kind, polite extremely helpful and gave me some helpful advice too. Junaid was very helpful. He set up a new sim deal along with another new phone and chrome book deal. He was very knowledgeable and was very patient answering any questions we had considering there was several customers waiting. As a Tesco colleague myself it's easy for people to complain however it's harder for people to actually praise a service if its good.
