I ordered a phone online from CeX and collected it the same day. At first, I was really happy with it – it looked great, no scratches or marks at all. Because of that, I bought a screen protector and a phone case straight away and put them on.
When I got home and started setting it up, that’s when everything went wrong. It took nearly 5 hours to set up. The phone froze twice during the transfer process and reset everything. It then froze during my SIM transfer, which ended up wiping my SIM from both my old phone and the new one. After that, I had no number at all, and the new phone wouldn’t accept any SIM card. I then had to transfer my account back to my old phone, which signed me out of everything and caused even more hassle.
I had to drive 30 minutes to my provider’s branch to get it sorted. The guy there tried everything – reset the phone, gave me a new SIM, tested it multiple times – and in the end said it was clearly a phone issue, not a SIM problem, and recommended I return it.
I then drove to my nearest CeX store. They said they needed to do a warranty test, which was fair enough. After waiting 45 minutes to an hour, I came back and was told they hadn’t actually done the test and would just send out a replacement instead.
Five days later the replacement arrived. This one was in much worse condition – covered in scratches, a crack on the back, and it felt laggy straight away when trying to set it up. At that point I’d had enough.
I drove back again to get a refund, and they said they would need to do another hour-long warranty test, but it was too late in the day to do it. I’m now returning it online instead.
From my experience, I wouldn’t bother. I’ve wasted so much time driving between stores and my provider, plus around £50 on screen protectors and return packaging, and I doubt I’ll get that money back. Really disappointing experience overall. I would not recommend buying a phone from CeX, i ordered the phone from the swansea store and went here with everything else
