I have been coming to Paris Wine Bar for many years and have always enjoyed visiting with friends. Unfortunately, my experience last night was by far the worst service I have ever received in any hospitality venue.
Within a minute of sitting down, a member of staff came to take our order before we had even been given a chance to properly look at the menu. Feeling rushed, we ended up ordering the first things we saw. A couple of minutes later, after having a proper look through the menu, I politely approached a member of staff to ask if I could change my drink order.
The response I received from a taller female staff member with black hair and glasses was completely unacceptable. She didn’t simply refuse the request — she spoke to us in an aggressive and hostile manner, telling us to “hurry up” because the drinks were already being made. The way she spoke to us felt like she was barking orders rather than serving customers. Both myself and my friend were shocked by her attitude and felt as though we were being spoken down to for no reason whatsoever.
I want to be clear that this review is not aimed at all staff. Another member of staff who wears glasses and who I believe is called Ruby has always been pleasant and professional whenever I have visited. The issue was specifically with the staff member described above.
What made matters worse was that the same staff member then went to her manager and claimed that we had been rude to her. This was simply untrue. At no point did we raise our voices, become confrontational, or speak disrespectfully. Despite being treated poorly, we remained polite throughout.
There was also another female member of staff with brown hair, who appeared to be relatively new, whose attitude throughout the evening did little to improve the situation. The overall atmosphere from several members of the team made us feel unwelcome.
To add to the frustration, my friend’s drink never arrived and we had to go back to the bar ourselves to ask for it. It was a simple order, yet it appeared to have been forgotten altogether.
By this stage, we decided we no longer wanted to stay and asked for the bill. Despite repeatedly trying to get someone’s attention, putting our hands up, and asking multiple times, it took approximately 30 minutes to pay. We eventually had to walk to the bar several times just to request payment. It genuinely felt as though we were being ignored.
Perhaps the most disappointing moment of the evening was when one of the staff members commented on my friend’s appearance, asking if he had come straight from work and then saying she could tell because he looked “scruffy.” He had come directly from work and was wearing his trade work clothes. Making comments about a customer’s appearance is completely unprofessional and unacceptable.
I work in hospitality myself and own restaurants, so I understand how demanding busy nights can be. I know mistakes happen, drinks get delayed, and staff can be under pressure. However, there is a huge difference between being busy and being rude. There is no excuse for making customers feel rushed, spoken down to, ignored, judged, and then falsely accused of being the problem.
This was genuinely the worst service experience I have ever had. It was especially disappointing because I have been a customer of Paris Wine Bar for many years and have always enjoyed coming here. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as no customer should be made to feel the way we did.
