Kames Hotel is in a remote area, on the loch side, with outstanding views over the water and hills. Staff are welcoming, they are dog friendly in the bar areas and we were very well looked after by the attentive staff on duty. It should be expected to ‘pay a premium’ for hospitality in such areas of outstanding natural beauty, where resourcing takes a lot of additional effort, so I was surprised to read a poor review giving only 2 stars regarding ‘2 steak pie & chips for £50, so won’t be coming back’, when in reality steak pie with chips and vegetables (all fresh & homemade) was listed as £20.95 on the menu here - Obviously I had to order it!
The steak was juicy, flavourful and a generous portion, the pastry was tender and well cooked with a rich gravy - a proper pie, just as pie should be. Fresh veg & home cut chips were 10/10 and worth every penny of the £20.95, for the flavour, quality and portion size.
The burger with blue cheese was reported as delicious too. Our party of 3 had no complaints, great Loch Fyne Brewery beers & we enjoyed the food.
As boaters we very much enjoy visiting Kames Hotel, in its unique position & especially for the peaceful night on the mooring buoys out front.
My only niggle is sachets of sauce at the table (would just prefer them in a box/hidden, as I think it lowers the tone), but I’ll not be marking down the food or service for such a triviality.
Really good meal meal and worth the journey to get here.
