Admittedly our older pet had had a heart murmur for some time and had been on medication for about two years. She developed a cough and we took her to vet next day. Vet insisted she be sedated to be X-ray-ed and take blood. We were not happy but did not know what else to do. After being gone for TWO HOURS, she came back barely awake. I asked if anything serious, vet said no, with usual disclaimer that anything can happen. We brought her home and she was gone within the hour. We had been dismissed with some info on emergency services. Had we been made aware she was that ill, we would have felt differently. We think she should not have been sedated if she was that critical, which vet should have known, and sedation led to hastening the outcome. Vet at VCA in Elijay took away a proper goodbye to our pet. She had no right.

My daughter was staying with us for several months while her home was being renovated. Her dog's nails needed trimming and a neighbor recommended Appalachian. Her regular vet sent all of the dogs records to Appalachian so the vet would be informed about the dog's medial condition and history. She was on time for her appointment and still waited for an hour. The nail trimming was preformed by a tech. The vet did make an appearance, but did nothing with her dog. The real kicker was the $200 bill for a tech trimming nails! I guess the vet saw this as an easy way to make some fast money on a customer that they will never see again.

The service here is good, if you can afford it. I took my cat for an appointment for teeth to be pulled, was quoted $800 for 2 teeth and then was talked into what I assumed was a monthly program to help with the financial bit. Well now im locked in and every penny I save is taken by these people. $130/month to do absolutely nothing. I cant do anything else for my 12 year old cat until these people stop taking what I save for his surgery. It's deplorable how they talk you into this to save you money that day but fail to tell you that you cant opt out later. So 7 months later and im still paying and they still haven't helped my cat, I get his prescriptions from another vet in jasper that was so kind and half the cost. So as soon as vca stops taking my money and providing no service, I can get my old guy the help he deserves.

Dr. Carlisle is wonderful. Explained everything and was compassionate and patient. All you want in a vet. My dog trusted everyone, he could feel they care. So glad this is my vet now!
