Chose VCA because all other emergency vets were closed on a late Sunday, and they did not disappoint Friendly staff and only charged for the procedure and some nausea medication, barely cracked $250 Will be going to them again if we have another emergency

I've been taking my fur babies here since 2019. They've always taken great care of them. If my babies were there overnight or multiple days, i like that the particular shift nurse sends you a picture of your baby. Also, since I go to work very early in the morning, I was able to stop by and visit my baby for a few minutes. If you want the best care, this is the place to go.

This review is based on receptionist service alone. My cat was have a fatal emergency and I called the first emergency vet I saw on Google in my area. I was clearly distressed about the situation and the receptionist who answered was AWFUL! I was telling him what was happening and he showed absolutely no empathy and basically said you can come here but it’s a 2 hour wait so it’s up to me. My cat was dying and the rude tone and coldness of their response was shocking for an “emergency vet”. I ended up going to another local emergency vet: VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group). They showed amazing care and kindness from the second I called, had zero wait time and took my emergency seriously.

We took our cat here to VCA Specialists due to having severe health issues. From the very moment we arrived we were treated with urgency and care and the communication was on point. Not only did they inform us of what they considered was the best plan of action but they listened and acknowledged our concerns. We felt that the decisions were not forced upon us but rather for us to determine which is calming and reassuring during a stressful time. Our cat was in bad shape. She was suffering for two days during Christmas time and was truly a difficult time for her and for us. Taking her to the emergency was the right thing to do but gut wrenching not knowing what to expect. Greatfully, Dr. Brent Megarry was the doctor on duty to see our sweet cat, Fleur and thoroughly inform us with all honesty of what was happening with her health. He was not just informative but compassionate and understanding. He was totally present and empathetic. He is an Emergency Vet but nothing about him was rushed or pressuring; rather he was calm and attentive... Despite us knowing he had other sick pets to attend to, and we were respectful of that, the attention he showed was special and is always appreciated. Again, the staff, each and everyone there was wonderful. Very compassionate and kind. If your pet has an emergency, this is a 24 hour Vet ER that is on Forest Hill Blvd in WPB. This is a hospital for your pet. By the way, reasonable pricing considering the issues at hand. This is the place to bring them if an emergency occurs. Do not hesitate. I 100% recommend.

Be prepared: they have an all or nothing approach; either you pay their full exorbitant asking price or receive no service. I brought my cat in on a Sunday in critical condition with suspected diabetes/DKA. I asked for basic stabilization only (IV fluids + glucose/ketone monitoring) to get her through the night so she could make it to her primary vet appointment the next morning. This ER felt like a package funnel, not collaborative medical care. Within the first part of the visit I was presented with a ~$6,000 “required” diagnostic/hospitalization plan. When I pushed back, I was offered a ~$5,000 version (basically the same plan with imaging removed). No true “stabilize-only” option was offered upfront. After roughly 2 hours, I was finally given an “Emergency Stabilization – not to exceed $1,000” authorization. Based on the timing and wording, it reasonably read like authorization for continued stabilization. Instead, shortly after that I was pushed toward discharge and billed ~$800–$900 for what amounted to a brief exam, IV catheter, a fluid bolus, and a few spot checks. The interaction made it very clear that if I wasn’t agreeing to the full package, they were not willing to continue care. When I asked directly what could be done to stabilize her until morning, the response was dismissive (“What were you expecting?”) and euthanasia was raised far too early given that basic stabilization and a second opinion hadn’t even happened yet. They framed the refusal to continue basic stabilization as “liability” and documented it as me refusing care, even though I repeatedly asked for essentials only and explicitly stated I understood and accepted the risks. The discharge summary literally states “Owner’s diagnostic plan declined” and “discharge against medical advice,” which paints the owner as non-compliant instead of acknowledging that no realistic middle option was offered I went to another clinic and for a similar cost received a far more complete diagnostic workup and an actual stabilization plan. A week later, my cat is still alive and doing better. If you go here, be prepared: the tone is “full package or discharge,” and the communication/expectations are not clear upfront. As several other reviews stated. They do not care about you or your pet. They want to close a sale.
