This was my first & last time visit to VCA. I have had experience with amazing vets, and this was not one of them. When the vet came into the room, there was no hello, no acknowledging or being friendly with my cat… It was very mechanical. She only listened to my cat’s heart rate and that was it. I thought establishing a new patient and a wellness check was part of the routine. At least it is at other vet clinics I was shocked that there was no friendly vibe. The techs were exactly the same. Personally I have a cat who likes to run out the door every time the door is open and normally there would be a tap on the door by staff before they walk in so that you have a chance to make sure your Cat is not going to run out. The dogs share the same space so if my cat did run out, there would be dogs and I feel like that’s a very dangerous thing and was very surprised they do not consider that to be a possible issue. They want you to use their specialty pharmacy which in my case for what my cat was prescribed was almost 3 times the cost. Anyway, there’s more but you get the idea. Not a good experience :(

My first experience with this clinic was to put my elderly cat down. I was able to bring her in 1 hour after I called. They were very compassionate and reassuring. They made the process as comfortable as it could be.

I was trying to see if this would be a good vet for my dog and new puppy, but the vet was very unfriendly with me and my dog. Won’t be returning.

Review based on my personal experience on January 2nd, 2026. What was supposed to be a simple wellness check for a rescued puppy turned into one of the most discouraging veterinary visits I have ever experienced. On January 1st, while I was on vacation in Palm Bay, FL, I rescued a 4-month-old French Bulldog puppy. He was underweight, frightened, somewhat uncoordinated, and suffering from ant bites on his neck that had caused skin and ear infections. Despite his condition, he was simply a vulnerable young animal in need of care and compassion. Before returning home the following day, I decided to take him for a basic veterinary evaluation to make sure nothing serious was going on and to provide any immediate treatment he might need until I could take him to my trusted veterinary hospital in my hometown. I visited VCA Animal Hospital (1340 Palm Bay Rd NE, Palm Bay, FL) and was seen by Dr. Alexandra Redmond. Unfortunately, the experience was one of the most discouraging and unprofessional veterinary encounters I have ever had. From the moment she saw the puppy, her demeanor conveyed clear discomfort and disapproval rather than compassion or professional concern. Instead of focusing on performing a proper examination, she immediately questioned whether I truly intended to keep the puppy and warned me that he “looked very bad,” would likely become “a problem,” and would cost me a great deal of money. The clinical evaluation itself was extremely limited. When she approached him, the puppy moved his head — an understandable reaction considering his ears were visibly inflamed and painful. This was quickly labeled as “aggressive behavior,” and I was told there was nothing she could do and that I should take him to a neurologist. Basic aspects of veterinary care had to be prompted by me. I had to ask about treatment for his skin and ear infections as well as about vaccinations. Only after I insisted were ear drops prescribed and a rabies vaccine administered. When I asked about a long-acting treatment option commonly used to manage ear infections and reduce the need for repeated handling of a painful area, the request was dismissed without consideration. Throughout the visit, the focus seemed less on clinical evaluation and more on discouraging me from keeping the animal. Despite the minimal examination and limited care provided, the cost of the visit was far from minimal. After returning to my hometown, everything changed. My puppy received thorough, compassionate, and competent veterinary care from professionals who clearly take both their medical responsibilities and their commitment to animal welfare seriously. Today, that same puppy is thriving. At 7 months old, he is healthy, fully vaccinated, with beautiful skin, a healthy weight, and living a happy life in a loving home. He never required a neurologist. I am extremely grateful that I trusted my instincts rather than the dismissive and discouraging assessment given during that visit. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location or the level of care provided by this veterinarian. Pet owners deserve empathy, professionalism, and a thorough medical evaluation when seeking care for a vulnerable animal. Veterinary medicine should be guided by compassion and clinical diligence — not by assumptions or discouragement.
