Highly recommend against bringing an animal to South Dade VCA. Brought in a parrot for crop burn, and after surgery they recommended not using a cone. A few days later stitches opened up, restitched and they put on a cone. Stitches opened up again and I asked for a some sort of covering and they recommended against it, and stated “the bird is sutured from the inside, there’s nothing for him to pick at.” After this surgery the stitches opened up again. I repeatedly asked for some sort of covering for the stitches or something different to be done, they “triple sutured the bird”, and said there was nothing different to be done, only for the stitches to open again and the bird perished. They performed the same exact surgery multiple times and tried absolutely nothing different. Several surgeries and thousands of dollars later only prolonged the suffering of the bird. I will never bring any animals back to this veterinarian ever again.

Every month, I have trouble getting my dog’s medication, even though it should be a simple process. The problem always seems to happen when Alex isn’t there — she’s the only one who knows how to handle it smoothly.
Additionally, the level of courtesy and communication from some of the staff has been disappointing. They don’t explain things clearly, and it feels like customer service isn’t a priority.
I’d really appreciate it if this issue could be addressed so that future visits go more smoothly.

Ridiculously expensive and not useful at all! Took my hamspter who clearly had a skin infection 3 months ago, paid over 250dlls for medicine and “check up”… didn’t get better and didn’t care… now I need to put her to sleep to avoid more pain, and they want to charge 243dlls for that?!!!! And they say they would “wave” deposit fee of 100+ Dlls?!!! Please find another exotic pet vet…

When I took my cat Gordie for the first time to VCA I felt the care the whole staff have for the animals. It’s on difficult situations when we are in pain that we really appreciate the support and sympathy. Thank you for the care and support when I needed the most.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about VCA South Dade Animal Hospital and especially Dr. Torres. From the moment I walked in, I felt that my bird was in the best possible hands. Dr. Torres is not only incredibly knowledgeable about avian care, but he also has such a gentle and patient way of handling birds that immediately puts both the pet and owner at ease.
It’s rare to find a veterinarian who truly understands birds, and Dr. Torres goes above and beyond every single time. He takes the time to explain everything thoroughly, answers all questions with care, and makes sure I leave feeling confident about my bird’s health. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does and deeply cares for his patients.
The entire staff at VCA South Dade is professional, kind, and welcoming, making visits smooth and stress-free. I am so grateful to have found a place where my feathered family member is treated with such exceptional skill and compassion.
If you’re looking for the very best avian veterinarian, I highly recommend Dr. Torres and the team at VCA South Dade Animal Hospital—they are simply amazing!
