VCA East Hartford likes to make a determination on what to tell you regarding your pet's health based on if they think you can afford services or not.
I've had my cat here for a few years and take her in yearly for skin allergies. I brought her in recently due to a behavioral issue. They gave her a lukewarm physical, said there was nothing wrong with her and then sent me home (because they assumed I couldn't pay for tests). This necessitated me reaching out to them for medication because my cat had an issue with allergies in her ear. I come in to pick it up. The vet tech who literally saw my cat the day before, looked at me, and kept walking (she's rude to boot).
Now a few months later when her skin issue returns (since they didn't really address it at her appointment), I look at her records and realize that they gave her a diagnosis of chronic dental disease. Yet they never spoke to me about this at her appointment. Didn't bring it up, didn't tell me what I should be doing to reverse this, zip, nada. And again, because they assumed I couldn't afford services based on the beat up car I drive (because my car runs fine and I'd rather spend money on things I need than cosmetic issues on a car), they told me nothing and this went unaddressed for more than 30 days.
The most egregious thing was that they also did this when I brought my senior dog about a year and a half ago. They kept asking me if my dog was "an old 13" and were trying to get me to put him down because he had urinary issue. $1600 surgery later (which I gladly paid) and even with the surgery gave him a prognosis stating that he would most likely past at the end of 2025. Well, we're about close to mid-way 2026 and my dog is fine other than being a 15 year old senior dog. All because they assumed I wouldn't be able to afford a surgery.
All this to say that if you're coming here, make sure you drive a brand spanking new car, come dressed to the nines, probably be white (as I'm not), and you'll be A-Okay. If you don't, they won't give you all the relevant medical information for your pets based on their classist preconceptions.

Nicole and Dr. Holston at VCA East Hartford were amazing to me and my family every time we came in. From the very beginning, they treated Simba with such care, patience, and compassion, and always made us feel supported and informed. In the end, when we had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to Simba, he was treated with nothing but dignity, love, and respect. Their kindness during such a painful moment meant more to us than words can express, and we are forever grateful for the comfort and care they gave our family.

This VCA "hospital" lied to me about my pet, please read, I had used VCA 2 years ago for my pet that passed over, the day before he passed, the female dr said to me that Bear was fine! no alerts, all is good. The next day Bear DIED, yes died, he died and it was a terrible terrible time since it was Thanksgiving holiday. (If you ever lost a fur baby you already know!) Well I rescued another and again took her to VCA in East Hartford (should have followed my instincts) to get a new vet, and the same female said to me that she had 3 THREE very bad teeth that need to get extracted to the tune of $1800, so trusting her, that week I made an appt (BAD IDEA) for a cleaning and a it was NEVER done, she came home with the same condition lots of tartar and same icky breath, except with some temporary top filling which came out 7 days later, this deception that has been bothering me for a long time and the reason I am writing this review. I was lied to not once but twice.
Present Day: I took my fur baby elsewhere and the New Vet was very kind and "attentive", and I arranged to have her teeth looked at well I just picked her up and there was no BAD TEETH, yes she has a tooth that grew sideways but there was no need to remove because the root was in great condition. (saw the XRays) the Dr, told me "why would I extract a tooth that doesnt need it, it will leave a hole on her gum, and will cause problems in the future. My fur baby also came home with clean white teeth, (deep cleaning was done) and no extractions and it was less than $1800. PLEASE Do a research where ever you take your fur babies and if your gut instincts appear, well RUN! I should have listened to mine. I understand that money keeps offices running and staff (which are nice btw) However not everyone have the means to dish out hundreds of $ each time you bring your fur babies and be HONEST for goodness sake I TRUSTED YOU. Of course they will deny and discredit my review but everything that is posted is nothing but the TRUTH with no exaggeration
