The vet straight up implied I stole my purebred kitten and refused to chip him, even though I had all his documentation and his pedigree. Not planning to go to VCA ever again.

This review is specifically for Dr. Joshua Scharf, not necessarily VCA as a whole. We brought our golden retriever in on May 14, 2024 for a tick found on his hind leg. We removed the tick ourselves, but wanted to bring him in to be checked more thoroughly. Towzer had a tumor on his chest as well which we chose to manage naturally ourselves. Dr Joshua Scharf recommended that we get a biopsy done but we refused it, as we had already done a biopsy of a tumor on his leg weeks earlier. That tumor came back “98% more than likely benign”. After much conversation between my husband and I, we decided to not do any more biopsies moving forward. My husband declined the second biopsy of the tumor on our dog’s chest, but the nurse came in and told us that when the doc took him back to examine him for more ticks he also took a sample of the tumor for his own “personal research”. When the doctor came in, my husband mentioned it to him and caught off guard Dr Joshua Scharf replied that it was indeed for his own “personal research”. My husband asked that he would at least share his own personal research after taking the sample without our permission in which he said, “I can’t disclose that information without you paying for it.” This whole experience was so unethical & infuriating to hear about when they came home. A week later, on May 25th, we had to take our dog in to be put down, as the tumor doubled in size at a rapid rate. We called to ask the price they charge to euthanize and it was nearly $500. On top of that, the medication we had him on for pain and inflammation was 4x the cost through VCA than getting it through 1800petmeds. Do not get your pet’s medication through them if you chose to use them! Thankfully we found an incredible vet nearby who treated us so much more ethically and charged us less than half to put our dog down. We wished we had been going to Lone Tree Veterinary Medical Center all along for our beloved pup! I wouldn’t normally ever write a nasty review but we are completely heartbroken and angry with the way we were treated at VCA.

In 35 years of having cats, Dr. Longley is the first vet that really seemed to like cats, he picked her up, petted her. I was really impressed. He is a wonderful veterinarian. Poor thing needed five dental extractions. They took excellent care of her. I don’t think they are any more expensive than some other places, if they are, well, you get what you pay for. I went to a small vet office for a while, saw the doctor treat my cat roughly and almost throw her on the floor. He was cheap.
