  My husband and I were in Switzerland and Italy for 2 weeks for our honeymoon, and this was by far our favorite meal that we had. The ambiance is charming, the staff was attentive, and the food was out of this world.

  Polenta und Ossobuco echt absolut lecker. Die Sauce total gut! Fairer Preis. Fleisch war leider nicht so zart wie ich mir das gehofft hätte und das Panacotta war in meinen Augen zu dick und zuwenig leicht. Aber umbedingt hingehen. Der Aufstieg lohnt sich.

  Super schönes Grotto. Kleine aber feine Speisekarte mit frisch zubereiteten Lokal Spezialitäten. Die Polenta ist super. Gut zubereitet. Freundlicher Service und sehr tolle Location.

  If there is one place that perfectly captures the spirit of Ticino’s traditional grotti, it is Grotto Morchino. Tucked away just outside Lugano, surrounded by greenery and that unmistakable sense of calm that you only find in this region, it feels like stepping into a slower, more authentic rhythm of life. The setting alone is worth the visit: shaded terraces, rustic stone elements, and a relaxed, convivial atmosphere that invites you to linger. We have been coming here repeatedly whenever we are in the region, and it has become one of those reliable places that never disappoints. The food is simple, but in the best possible way — honest, well-executed, and deeply rooted in local tradition. Think generous plates of polenta, slow-cooked meats, and classic Ticinese dishes that are rich without being heavy. Everything feels well balanced, both in flavor and in portion size, which are notably generous. You leave satisfied, but not overwhelmed. From a practical standpoint, especially when traveling with a baby, this place works surprisingly well. The outdoor seating offers enough space to comfortably accommodate a stroller, which immediately removes a layer of stress. The atmosphere is lively but not chaotic — there’s a natural noise level that actually helps, as you don’t feel like every small sound from your baby is being noticed. The staff has always been efficient and friendly, and while this is not a “baby-focused” place per se, we consistently felt welcomed and at ease. That kind of subtle flexibility makes a big difference when dining out as a family. One important tip: it is very much worth booking in advance. The grotto is quite popular, especially during good weather, and it would be a shame to miss out. There is clearly a strong local following, which is always a good sign — this is not a tourist trap, but a place people genuinely return to. What I appreciate most about Grotto Morchino is its authenticity. It doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. There is no unnecessary sophistication or overcomplication — just good food, generous portions, fair prices, and a beautiful setting. In a world where many places try too hard, this kind of clarity is refreshing. We will absolutely keep coming back, especially as a family. It’s one of those rare spots where you can enjoy a truly local experience without compromising on comfort, even with a baby in tow. If you are anywhere near Lugano, this is a place not to miss.
