It was precisely on the edge of this square that Oreste Borghi founded the eponymous real estate agency in 1924. Oreste Borghi was a pioneer of the modern concept of condominium ownership, or “Stockwerkeigentum”, which met the new needs expressed by tourists at the time. In the early 1960s, he built the first condominium in Minusio and established the regulations governing the shared use and management of the property by all condominium owners. Over the years, the city of Locarno developed into an important tourist destination. Construction activity increased, with larger and more ambitious projects being developed. The number of condominiums and buildings grew steadily, the real estate market was thriving, and apartments were being sold off-plan. These were the years of the real estate boom. When the founder, Oreste Borghi, passed away in 1972, the management of the company was taken over by his son, Silvio. However, the real estate crisis was approaching. The market entered a period of stagnation, and the Borghi real estate agency was also affected by the difficult economic situation. Following the death of Silvio Borghi in 1983, the agency changed ownership several times and also changed its name, eventually becoming Assofide SA. In 1993, the company was acquired by Giancarlo Cotti. At that time, Assofide SA consisted of Giancarlo Cotti as Managing Director, Erica Borghi, who was responsible for sales, and three other employees.
