A deeply disturbing experience on 30 July 2026, during the 15:45 service from Val Roseg to Pontresina. I was traveling with my elderly mother, which was our only reason for taking carriage transport. Before departure, I was shocked to see two additional full-sized carriages hitched behind the main omnibus. Instead of a single carriage, three horses were forced to pull three connected vehicles carrying nearly 60 passengers (including children) in peak summer heat. In this region, private carriages with 2 horses carry around 4 people, making it incomprehensible how 3 horses were forced to haul 60. During the journey, the extreme weight and heat caused one of the horses to collapse on the trail. The scene was heartbreaking—I cannot forget the sheer exhaustion in his eyes as his body gave out. Not a single passenger spoke up, maintaining a disturbing silence throughout. Because of the shock and not having my phone on me, I could not take photos, but the collapse happened in full view of everyone on board. Throughout the trip, the young driver was continuously distracted on her mobile phone and chatting with a child seated beside her. Rather than taking precautions given the heat and heavy load, she repeatedly forced the horses to run, directly leading to the collapse. Formal reports have been filed with local authorities and international animal welfare organizations. Visitors should think twice before supporting this operation.
