  Riverside restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Decent drinks and food, nothing special but good enough. It was expensive. We each had a cocktail and main course and shared a starter and the bill came to almost 300 CHF. Service was fine generally but there was one waitress who was slightly off. She made half joking snarky comments which were uncalled for... The restaurant is dog friendly so there were a few dogs on the terrace. Unfortunately a rat ran past us as we were leaving the restaurant, but I guess it's not that surprising given the restaurant is by the river along the path.

  While walking along the Rhine in Basel, I was drawn into Portofino by the inviting riverside setting and a menu that sounded too good to pass up. Although the outdoor seating was closed, completely understandable on a cold late evening. The atmosphere inside turned out to be just as memorable. The interior struck a perfect balance: warmly lit, intimate, and cozy without feeling overly dark. It had a relaxed elegance that made it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening. I chose one of the daily specials, rabbit leg with a honey mustard sauce, and it was outstanding. The rabbit was tender and full of flavor, and the sauce complemented it perfectly without overpowering the dish. It was comforting, refined, and easily one of the best meals I had during my time in Basel. From the ambiance to the food, the entire experience felt thoughtful and authentic. I would gladly return especially to enjoy the riverside seating along the Rhine in warmer weather.

  Unser Besuch im Portofino heute zum Mittagessen war wirklich eine Entdeckung! Es hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt, das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis hat 100% gestimmt, die Bedienung war aufmerksam und freundlich, wir haben uns hier am Rhein sehr wohlgefühlt! Bitte un pò di pane von Anfang an wäre wünschbar gewesen... Wir kommen gerne wieder, bei sommerlichen Temperaturen auf die Terrasse hoffentlich...

  War sehr enttäuscht, Tisch zu meinem 60ten Geburtstag draussen reserviert. War trostlos Gedeckt, kein weisses Tischtuch nur Papier Untersetzer, wie in einer Kantine, obwohl mir dies telefonisch zugesagt wurde. Ohne mich zu fragen wurde mir ein Dessert mit Wunderkerze gebracht, Idee war nett jedoch habe ich Tiramisu nicht gerne, wollte lieber ein anderes Dessert, wurde nicht gefragt was ich gerne hätte. Service mangelhaft, Teller wurden lange nicht abgeräumt, Aschenbecher erst nach verlangen gewechselt obwohl voll. Fazit: werde das Portofino nicht mehr Besuchen, mein Eindruck ist mehr Schein als sein! Sehr schade habe mich auf den Abend mit meinen Gästen sehr gefreut!

  Il cibo era molto buono e di ottima qualità. Anche il servizio, nel complesso, è stato buono, ma non all’altezza delle aspettative per una tavolata numerosa. Capisco perfettamente che con tanti ospiti non sia sempre possibile servire tutto nello stesso momento. Tuttavia, ho trovato poco comprensibile il fatto che, a ogni portata o bevanda, la mia ordinazione arrivasse sempre in ritardo rispetto agli altri: spesso quando gli altri avevano già finito di mangiare o bere. Anche con l’ultimo cocktail ho avuto lo stesso problema: dopo aver atteso a lungo al tavolo, mi sono recata personalmente al bancone per chiedere informazioni, ma anche lì ho dovuto aspettare mentre venivano serviti altri clienti. Non mi è sembrato molto corretto, soprattutto considerando che avevo già ordinato al tavolo. In una situazione del genere, mi sarei aspettata un po’ più di attenzione e priorità. Inoltre, la scelta del menu per le grandi tavolate mi è sembrata un po’ troppo semplice. Ho notato che il ristorante propone anche un nuovo menu molto interessante e curato, che sarebbe stato bello poter includere, almeno in parte, anche per gruppi più numerosi. Nel complesso, ottima cucina, ma il servizio e l’organizzazione potrebbero essere migliorati.
