We wish there were a way to differentiate emergency department reviews from those of the specialists’ offices, as ER reviews may deter people from seeking specialty care here. We’ve had the pleasure of being cared for by four departments at VCA BAVS, but would like to give special shout-outs to the oncology and internal medicine departments. INTERNAL MEDICINE We met with Dr. Jade Peralta after our recently adopted dog began experiencing regurgitation issues. Dr. Peralta has been nothing short of helpful, kind, and deeply caring. Beyond her thoroughness, she consistently checked in to make sure our baby girl was doing well and truly felt cared for. We’d also like to thank Tiffany and Angela for being so gentle and patient with our anxious girl; they earned her trust, and we are incredibly grateful. ONCOLOGY The reason we were introduced to this place in the first place (and one we are so grateful for). While no one ever wants to bring their pet in for oncology care, if you ever have to, we truly wouldn’t recommend anyone other than Dr. Colosi and her incredible team (Laura, Nancy, Nadia, Natasha, Natalie, Morgan, and Dr. Kuzmik, Koa’s “back-up” doctor). Our boy was a very wary dog, but with time, patience, lots of love, and soooooo many treats, they completely won him over. After his lymphoma diagnosis, Dr. Colosi (special shoutout to Laura and Nancy) did everything possible to ensure he was comfortable and that we fully understood every care option available to us. We truly cannot put into words how appreciative we are for their compassion, kindness, guidance, and honesty. It was one of the hardest times of our lives, and yet Dr. Colosi and her team were a bright light during such a dark period. His wins were our wins (and by “our,” we mean both the oncology team and our family). We could not have asked for a better cheerleading team. As much as we love and adore Dr. Colosi and her team, we hoped we would never have to see them again (at least not as patients). Unfortunately, it now looks like our girl may need their care as well. From the very start, Dr. Colosi has reassured us with her experience, calm confidence, and genuine compassion, and we truly believe her when she says everything will be okay (as she has done countless times, including again as we just booked a consultation for our girl). She has been an absolute godsend to our family, and we already feel a sense of ease knowing our pup will be in the right hands. We cannot thank Dr. Colosi enough, and we know our first pup was loved and adored there. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and thank you for allowing us another wonderful year with our baby boy. We could not have done it without you and your team. With so much love and gratitude, The Suens

THIS PLACE IS EVIL. They wanted us to euthanize our puppy based on zero testing. They tried guilt to my girlfriend to kill him saying it was the only compassionate option. They wanted us to kill him so badly that they offered a 50% discount. She said no. Then they said they would give us 50% off on the killing and 50% off the emergency visit. My girlfriend finally got the picture they just wanted money. We went and saw our normal vet, and they said his problem might just go away on its own. Guess what, he's a live and fine. The problem he had went away. EVIL workers and EVIL vets. Stay away.

Some experiences simply defy belief and must be shared. This is one of them. I brought my nine year-old pug mix rescue to this facility on Christmas Day as he had been lethargic, not eating and appeared to be unable to close his mouth. As he had recently undergone a dental procedure in the Fresno area (always a concern) I was worried that a latent infection had developed. To my utter surprise the veterinarian on staff announced that she was 'unqualified' to inspect his mouth. I'm confused. What EXACTLY is it that you are doing in emergency medicine? Cosmetic procedures? To enhance the absurdity of the situation, she sent us home with standard pills and tablets that must be administered orally. Lady: if YOU cannot open the dog's mouth, how are WE supposed to open his mouth? A circular problem, yes? The long and the short of it...the dog became septic and had to be euthanized at our regular vet a few days later. Despicable and at a cost of $600.00 for the miserable experience. Save yourself the agony and take your animal to SAGE in Dublin where they actually practice veterinary medicine. Note/ update: we will be pursuing a remedy through the full legal channels available. As a retired attorney I welcome the process.

If I could give 10 stars to the cardiology department here, I would! Finding out that your puppy may have a serious heart condition is never easy. And I called a few different cardiologists referred by other vets and I found many to be cold over the phone. But not VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists. It all started with my initial phone call and Briana answered the phone. She was kind and patient and answered many of my questions. I even called back multiple times and she never tired of my calls. I even talked to two other people and they were equally pleasant. Then at our appointment Briana greeted us just the same. Abby, the vet tech in cardiology was sweet and very good with Trixie, my dog. She explained to me what they were doing for her and she answered my questions. Charissa in the back treated Trixie like a princess. And Dr. Walker...I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Walker. Meet her yourself and you'll get it. This is a doctor that truly cares about the animals and their families. She took a lot of time to explain to me the outcome of all the tests they ran. She was patient, kind, nice and Trixie just loved her. She answered all my questions and thoroughly explained things so I could understand. She never rushed me out the door and really cared about Trixie and her care. Thank YOU VCA cardiology for everything. Dr. Walker you were more than I had hoped for in a vet caring for my pup. -Cassie Canfield & Trixie
