I’m sharing my experience to help others avoid a similar situation in the future. Exploitive Pricing: I was disappointed to find that this clinic refused to provide a quote for spaying my cat over the phone, while other local clinics offered upfront pricing. After undergoing their “wellness check” process, I received a quote exceeding $500, whereas other facilities in town quoted around $200. This significant price difference raised concerns about their pricing practices. Cleanliness: The facility itself left much to be desired. It appeared unclean, and the treatment room for my cat was visibly dirty, with fur from previous animals still present. I was particularly alarmed when a staff member uncapped a needle using her mouth before administering a vaccination. This lack of basic aseptic protocol made me question their training and practices. Given their high prices, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness and safety, including the use of gloves. Ultimately, I’ve decided to take my cat to another vet, Millville Vet, for her spaying. I strongly advise others to consider their options carefully and avoid this clinic.

I am not exaggerating when I say this place will charge you $200 for letting your pet breathe when you walk in. Staff is friendly enough but they are a well-oiled sales machine that finds a way to squeeze every possible dollar out of each visit. We’ve been going for the last couple of years, despite all this (out of convenience… who wants to take the time to find a NEW vet) but was pushed over the edge when I brought my dog in for a rabies vaccine and they tried to charge me $600 for a bunch of add-ons I never asked for. Once I opted out of everything but the bare essentials, it was $250, half of which was for a “wellness check” that I did not ask for but was “required to treat” the dog. When you go somewhere for years and most of the staff knows your dog by name, you kind of expect to be treated like a trusted client rather than just an optimized profit opportunity. That’s not the case here, unfortunately. I would advise doing some extra research to find a more customer-friendly place - that’s what I’ll be doing.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. Everyone is so friendly as well as helpful, and I’ve never felt more comfortable in a vets office with my dog. They were so caring, patient, and understanding of my finances which is the biggest highlight of this visit. 10/10 would recommend you bring your animals here, they’ll be treated as if they’re their own.

First of all, I love my vet. That accounts for most of the stars. The staff over all are very nice as well. But the place is always chaotic and everyone seems rushed. So pretty much nothing is going to go smoothly on any random visit. I took one of my dogs in for her dental. When I got there I filled out forms where they asked me at what number i would be available on that day and I wrote my number. Then when I handed them the paperwork they asked again. They had the wrong number so I told them the correct one. That's twice that I told them. At 3:00 I had heard nothing so I called to see how my dog was doing! The (very nice) receptionist put me on hold and then came back on and said she was fine, and that someone would call me around 4:00. No one called. At 4:15 I called again and reminded them that I live over 30 minutes away and I know they close at 5 and that I still had heard nothing from the vet or the tech. They added warmly that "Ruby was all ready to cash out." Okay, then. While I was on the phone with them I got a call FROM them so I switched to that call. The tech said they had been trying to reach me and that they close in 45 minutes! (They had been calling the wrong number even though I had told them the correct number -- twice.) Then when I went to "cash out" Ruby, I asked to see the breakdown of the charges. (The add on charges were over $1000.) The receptionist said they couldn't do that until I paid. He seemed a little annoyed. Really? (That got more or less worked out.) These kinds of things happen every time I go there! The second to last time I was there, I was literally there over two hours. I had to wait 20 minutes in line just to check in! Then I had to wait another 30 minutes for the appointment, which lasted about 20-30 minutes. Then I had to wait in the exam room for medication for over 30 minutes. Then it took 10 minutes of standing in line to check out. Much worse than doctor's appointment for humans! To be clear, this is not the fault of the vets or the staff. it is either the fault of VCA or the practice owner or the practice manager. But it really should be addressed. UPDATE: VCA Animal companion responded one day later and as per their response, I called them. I was told someone would call me the next day. Instead, I got a call five days later from the hospital manager, and she told me she did not get my message until that morning. She was very nice. But it does not seem like anything is going to change. They are grossly understaffed but VCA has no plans to hire anyone, which I assume they think would cut into their profit margins. It is very inconsiderate of their patients, but not the fault of the staff at VCAAC.
