UPDATE: Verizon ended up CHARGING ME $200 FOR THE EQUIPMENT I RETURNED – THE EQUIPMENT I NEVER ASKED FOR. This is illegal, ridiculous, and shows how incompetent they are as a company. I will fight this charge tooth and nail and make sure everyone knows how scummy Verizon is.
Had my 5G Home Internet for 2+ years and it used to work fine until one day my connection speed dramatically slowed down. Spoke an hour with tier 2 technical support and after exhausting other options, they decided to send me a new modem.
New modem shows up, I spend 45 minutes on the phone trying to get it activated, and Verizon can't get it done. Person on the phone put me on the hold for 30+ minutes and then pretended they couldn't hear me and hung up. Even said they didn't have a callback number for me, but I later found out they wrote in the notes that they tried to call back without an answer. In other words, they lied just to get rid of me.
Spent another hour talking to customer support online, they still can't activate the new modem. At this point, ANOTHER modem shows up at my door. No one knows why, but I now have one slow modem and two that don't work.
At this point I've had enough and I drive to the nearest Verizon store. They're first helpful but then say I can't return the modems at the store, I need to drive to UPS to ship them out myself. Let me repeat that – Verizon store cannot return Verizon equipment to the Verizon warehouse. And this is Verizon equipment that I never asked for, I have two useless modems that even Verizon themselves don't know how to activate, and now it's my job to go through the hassle of driving these to UPS.
Oh and the original issue with connection speeds? Still remains.
At this point I don't care about the connection speed, I'm baffled by their ability to waste your time without accomplishing anything. My store visit was on a Tuesday afternoon around 1pm, store was empty with five employees just standing around. What are they getting paid to do? They're not helping customers, that's for sure.
I'm in the process of canceling all my Verizon services and will convince everyone I know to avoid them at all cost. I returned all the equipment, and ended up getting charged $200 for each gateway modem regardless.
