I taken my pet here twice now, during our first visit, we were we handed a HUGE bill for several vaccines. I showed them a nearby clinic that offered the same vaccines for less than half, but they shrugged it off.
Next visit; this time I inquired about prices prior consenting to services, their demeanor changed to an off putting judgmental attitude.
Patients, and their owners have the right to inquire about prices prior to treatment. VCA lacks price transparency and empathy. Even after requesting information/prices for standard treatments, they implied the info isn’t readily available & is inconvenient for them to retrieve.
I’ve researched the area, and VCA charges 2-2.5x more than other vets for vaccines, exams, and tests. Thank you for the assistance for my pet, but I’ve decided to take them elsewhere moving forward.
Patients and parents, do your own local research.

We were seen last minute by Dr. Childs and she was very nice until we declined her suggested services that we did not need. Her entire demeanor changed and became very rude and dismissive. The tech brought our dog to the back for a physical exam but Dr. Childs never came back to update us on any information. We had to request for her to come back into our room and when she came back, she still seemed irritated from before and vaguely updated us. It felt like we had to pull information out of her and it shouldn’t have been that way. It felt like she didnt want to help us or be there, so she exited in a way that made it seem like we wasted her time. However, the vet tech’s and the front desk were very nice and welcoming. But we would not recommend seeing Dr. Childs.

I just moved to Escondido so I went today to see how much shots are at this location since my pets were going to be new there, a vet assistant started laughing at me. I felt disrespected and embarrassed.

We called around 12:06pm, could've been the same woman from last year who lied and said our dogs can’t come in even though we’ve been there for years..Anyways when we called today around 12:06pm, it was urgent for our older dog who slipped and couldn’t get up right away the woman kinda snapped and stated “we’re full!”.. “this is not a urgent care clinic”..We weren’t asking for that just like advice of what to do of any real assistance..

We were going through a hard time with a family loss, and my young daughter's hamster (AKA: her "baby") started having health issues. We were not in a position to cope with much at that point, nor was I completely confident that we should spend an unreasonable amount of money. I was already emotionally-exhausted, and had SO many questions for the vet on the best course of action for our little guy and the financial decisions that had to be made along with it.
The whole staff was so helpful, encouraging, and professional in attending to my many questions and my indecisiveness. At no point were they condescending, judgmental, pushy, or impatient (all experiences we've had with other pets and vets in the past). They were very honest and direct, though, which made me trust them all the more.
I am so grateful for them in the respectful and patient way they treated us, their expertise, and for saving our little guy when our family was already dealing with an overload of heartbreak.
And direct shout outs to Dr. Kelly, Nicole, and Jolene! They were fantastic.
