This store is, without a doubt, one of the slowest I’ve ever seen. There are more than 25 employees scattered around, talking to each other or looking at their phones, while there’s a very long line of customers waiting to buy and no one is helping them. I’m attaching a photo here as evidence. Honestly, I don’t understand how they can have so many employees and still provide such poor service.

TLDR; Battery warranty (from their in-house replacement service) is only 90d. My battery that I had replaced there did not even last 9 months! Apple Store at South Coast Plaza will NOT stand by you if you have a defective battery that happens outside Apple’s laughably small window of warranty. Very disappointed in the store lead/management’s decision to NOT take care of a customer and make right on an obviously defective product that they sold. No consideration towards even a partial/prorated discount for something that was due to manufacturer defect.
Long story:
I came to this Apple Store nine months ago for a battery replacement. The original battery on my iPhone had lasted approximately 6 years. There was swelling and it was time to replace the battery for $89 (before tax). So I went into the store they replaced the battery for me and I was on my way. Fast forward to today, <9 months later, the new battery they put for me has experienced swelling to the point that it is separating the glass screen from the aluminum housing. It is very abnormal for an apple OEM battery to be defective in 9 months time. So I drove back to the same store that I got the replacement and told them of this defect/issue.
The young man who was helping me had tried to ask his store lead and any other supervisor to see if they could provide any assistance considering this was done at the same store and the abnormal amount of time for the battery to fail. Remember, my original battery had lasted almost 6 *years*. This new one failed in just 9 *months*. They rejected the request to replace it for free and they rejected the request for a partial discount. And I was forced to pay $89 again ($100 after taxes) in less than 12 months.
The customer-centric solution to this would have been to offer a prorated discount/partial discount on the service. I’m really let down that the store/Apple itself cannot standby the products and components that they sell. When I asked them “what if the new battery fails in 4 months?” - oh well, that would be another $100 you have to spend. Or you can buy an $800+ phone I guess. Really disappointing.
There was another older man waiting at the table waiting to get a battery replacement. I told him my experience when I went to pickup my phone and he cancelled his appointment. Too much risk. When you charge $100 and you can’t even stand by your product/service, or even do the right thing to take care of a customer, you contributed to an erosion of trust with your customer-base. Now I’m just telling everyone I can to not even bother with this service. It’s not worth the potential risk.
