My family recently adopted our first pupppy and received a complimentary first free appointment coupon from the shelter however I didn’t book the appointment within the time frame once I called they were so kind to inform me that all of their first appointments are complimentary which I was very happy to hear being our first dog I thought this is excellent this office is going to be our new home for our dog.
Come time for the appointment and I was about 7 minutes late and was rudely informed that the appointment has been cancelled and that there is no grace period not even for 5 minutes. Please note that this also was never mentioned on the phone when making the appointment. I didn’t even want to explain why or see if there anything they can do because if this is how you treat your customers I don’t want to give you any of my business. Mind you there was only ONE other person in the waiting room who was only waiting to pay. I can completely understand you have a strict schedule to keep and one late appointment makes the rest of your appointments late however it was the first visit and she’s only 4 months old and there was a better way to go about it. I don’t like to leave nasty reviews but I am in complete shock of the behavior of your staff. I also am not interested in ever going to another VCA there are plenty of other vet hospitals nearby that will gladly take our business so please save your Google review apology for someone who needs it more then me.
It’s such a shame to offer “your first vet visit with us is free” when this is the behavior of your staff not a good look trying to gain additional clients.

We visited VCA for our complimentary 1st time visit with our recently adopted dog on Friday, 7/18. The experience we had there was mediocre at best, but the real excitement happens after our visit. Per our complimentary visit, we were given a tablet of Simparica for flea and tick prevention. This was given with no instruction, no run down of side effects, just a simple, "Here you go, this is free with your visit today."
When we got home, we decided to give him the tablet, as we are wanting to take him hiking and believed that this would be a good preventative measure. After giving him the tablet on Friday evening, we woke up to diarrhea all over the apartment from our house trained dog. We continued needing to take care of our dog all day long on Saturday, into the early morning of Sunday, as the diarrhea was uncontrollable for him. After a very brief search on the internet, it was clear that this was a very common side effect and something we would have thought twice about giving to him. Being forced to do our own research, as opposed to being able to trust a licensed medical professional, is reckless and irresponsible at best, and a potential malpractice lawsuit at worst.
With no warning as to what the side effects could include, there is a clear lack of responsibility at VCA Burbank. You are a medical facility providing care for animals, please take the time to make sure that your clients are well informed about the medications you are just handing out like Halloween candy.
