I took my older pup in on Friday because she was waking up in pain. The vet held her, checked her heart and recommended pain meds. They also suggested bloodwork as a precaution with pain meds, which would be $600. She agreed that our pup had a weird smell to her, but attributed it to her being older. Well one week later, she’s still in pain and we notice her ear is black inside and that seems to be the smell. I called and asked that she be seen again because her ears had clearly not been checked out. I was told it would be another $140 but protested because it seems common practice to check a dogs ears, teeth, etc. during a check up and I didn’t see that happen. They essentially said too bad and I was told the vet insisted she has checked her ears. We took her to another vet today and found that she has an ulcerated ear infection and this ear infection had been active for quite some time. This was missed by the doctor at VCA and I’m disappointed that a) it’s not common practice to check ears and b) the doctor insisted she did and couldn’t just charge a follow up fee since she was there one week ago and it was missed. We will not be taking our three dogs here anymore. It’s unacceptable that our pup was in pain for this long and it could have been resolved a week ago.

Our 10 year old Yorkie Sadie died suddenly last month. We tried to rush her to the hospital but she died in my arms on the way there. The staff were all very compassionate and caring. She had been receiving care there her whole life. We did belong to the care club there and were about half done with it for the year. I called to try and see if it could be canceled and was told it could be with a deep discount for services already received. Their deep discount was about 200 dollars. Now I do realize that I would owe them some some money but 200 discount on a 2700 dollar care club contract that was half way done just doesn't seem right to me. To be fair she did have dental work done. But they claim that's about 4 thousand dollars. I know other vet hospitals that family members go to that charge half that amount and I believe they just tell you that so you think your getting a big discount by joining the care club. We are getting another puppy but I'm Not sure if we should take her there or not.

Once upon a time I would have been hesitant to entrust care to a corporate clinic…However, Dr. Jacobson and the technicians, assistants, and receptionists literally rescued my cat, Rin, from the brink. Cost of services is reasonable and competitive although the “Care Club” insurance plans offered really are essential. I watched several high-cost care estimates drop to $0.00 out-the-door after applying the insurance. Rin continues to receive stellar care and I would like to offer immense praise and gratitude for everyone at 335 Military W.!
