I would NOT recommend Ross Moving! Based on my experience, I found management to be unreliable, poorly organized, and not trustworthy when it comes to honoring what customers are told over the phone. Their final bill was also more than $1,000 higher than the original quote, even after I provided photos and videos of everything we were moving beforehand.
I originally chose Ross Moving because they had good reviews and gave me the lowest quotes. When I called to book, I explained that our old house and new house were only about 5 minutes apart. The person booking my move specifically told me that because the homes were so close, the $150 destination/truck fee would be waived. I was comparing multiple moving companies at the time and specifically wrote this down with my quote. I still paid the $150 deposit they required to reserve the move.
The day before the move, they also asked me to send pictures and videos showing how much stuff we had. I sent them exactly what they requested, so they had additional information about the size of the move before arriving.
When it came time to pay, the final bill was more than $1,000 higher than what I had originally been quoted, and that did not even include the $150 deposit. I understand that moving estimates are not always exact and that a bill could reasonably be a few hundred dollars different, but being more than $1,000 off after I had also provided pictures and videos beforehand is significant.
Their truck also wasn’t able to fit everything, so they had to make a second trip back to the old house to get the remaining belongings. Even after the second trip, some of our belongings were still left behind at the old house. We were frustrated, but we let that go as well.
The issue that finally pushed me to write this review was the $150 fee. After the move, I contacted them because I had specifically been told when booking that it would be waived. I was told they would speak with management and get back to me. They did not follow up when they said they would, and when I eventually heard back several days later, management refused to honor what I had been told because their employee apparently did not document it.
That is incredibly disappointing. A customer should not be responsible for an employee failing to document something the employee specifically promised over the phone. I know what I was told, and I specifically wrote it down while I was on the phone because I was comparing quotes from different moving companies.
What is especially frustrating is that I had already let a lot go — the final cost being over $1,000 higher than quoted, their truck not fitting everything despite being sent pictures and videos beforehand, having to make another trip, and belongings still being left behind. Then, after all of that, management would not even honor the $150 waiver I was promised.
Their response was essentially that if their employee didn’t write it down, that part of the conversation didn’t happen.
The moving crew themselves were great, but unfortunately the quoting process, communication, follow-up, and management were not. I would not use Ross Moving again, and I would strongly recommend that anyone considering them get absolutely everything in writing before paying a deposit, because a verbal promise will not be honored later. I went with them because they were the cheapest, and they ended up being the most expensive.
