I recently joined a half-day Fly Fishing clinic with HCGS, and it was a blast! It was early morning, and we met David at the Food Lion parking lot before my first lesson. We drove to the river in his truck, and he chatted the whole way. I’ve fished both saltwater and freshwater, both offshore and inland, been to a couple of fly fishing clinics, and done a float trip, so I was excited to get some basic training. Seriously, I hadn’t even worn fishing waders before! We got to the spot, got our wader on, and headed down to the stream. David was incredibly patient with me, and he took the time to explain how to “read the river” before we started fishing. He showed me how to find the pockets, watch what was happening on the surface, and pick the right fly(s). We fished both dry and wet flies that day. Then, we started practicing fly casting, watching the indicator or dry fly, and landing trout. I had an amazing time, felt no pressure to perform, and really felt good about heading out on the river on my own. I still have a lot to learn, and I feel confident that I can do it. Oh, and I caught about 5-6 trout in the four hours we were on the river. What an awesome day!! I would highly recommend NCGS to anyone who wants to get their feet wet with trout fishing. I’m planning to book another session with David for more guidance. I know they also serve the seasoned angler. Thank you, David, for giving me the confidence and basic training to kickstart my fly fishing journey.

The family and I braved the cold and got our first fly fishing experience knocked out with High Country Guide Service. It was awesome, the guides were super knowledgeable and we all got along like we were old pals. They did a great job getting us on some fish and took very good care of the family. Highly recommended!

Just returned from a wade-guided session with Collin and had an outstanding experience. He was incredibly patient and took the time to thoroughly teach me the fundamentals of fly fishing. I learned a great deal and truly appreciated his instruction. I would strongly recommend Collin to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and professional guide.

Despite the frigid temperatures, Collin was an awesome guide for our 3/4 day wade trip. In the absence of talent and skill, Collin put us on some great fish, including my biggest Rainbow to date (see the pic!). He shared a vast amount of knowledge with us, and I will forever be perfecting the "mend." We had a great time, and will be booking with Collin again.
